Renaissance Festival Was a Perfect Late Summer/Early Fall Day - Schedules and Timetables

Renaissance Festival yesterday was about the most perfect day we could have gotten. The temps were mild, the sun was shining, the crowd wasn't obnoxious, lots of people were in costume of various types, and the mud from the serious rains of Saturday was only bad in the usual places and very avoidable.

It was a perfect day for Ren Fest - a slight
bit cooler in the morning, and not too hot
by the afternoon. The sky was perfectly blue,
and the mud wasn't too bad (there had been
a serious rain the day before). Here, we are
sitting with our morning beverages - coffee
for DH, Chai tea for me.

We wandered the grounds. I actually let myself have a chai tea - I think it's the first non-herbal tea I've had for over a year. But the very first thing we did was to get a new carrier for my cell phone. I've bought phone carriers for my phones from Renaissance Leather for years now, upgrading every time I got a new phone because each phone is larger. They can (and have) moved the clasps to a different location when requested, but usually DH needs a new case, and often my old one will suit him well. That's what happened this time. I gave my old Mariner's Compass motif holder to DH for his new Samsung phone, and bought one with a Celtic circle emblem for my new Pixel. DH's old Thistle motif holder is on my side table right now while I think if I have anything I could re-purpose it for. (Checking it out, it seems to be the perfect height for my sketch pens. Perhaps a journal and my pens might be a good addition to my usual kit.)

The old oak near the Pavillion is truly dead this
year. In fact, I'm surprised they haven't removed
it, but it's not in anyone's way, and it's surrounded
by large rocks, so perhaps it would be difficult
and possibly expensive.

We met old friends, I got some hugs, and we had a lovely time listening to the "Court Revelers", a favorite of my personal schedule. I indulged in an ale while listening, but my parasol had other ideas and managed to knock it off the table when I was 2/3 finished with it. Oh well. Not the end of the world and I probably didn't need the rest of it anyway - LOL.

The crowds came later in the day. This early in
the morning, we get a good influx of people, but it's not
crowded on the Fest grounds. It's the best time to
be there. We did run a little late getting there.
I'll have to make sure we leave earlier when
Sharon is here because we were still in line
for our passes when the cannon went
off, so we missed the entire back and forth
dialog from the gates to the waiting patrons.

We ended up walking the grounds three times (my pedometer said we had walked around 6 miles). I wanted to catch up with Melissa, a friend of ours, but we missed her early shows and left before her final one. We'll try to intersect with her next week. She's only going to be there for three weeks, and we'll be at the Fair for her final two days, so it's next week or nothing.

I love two musical groups/people at Ren Fest. The Court
Revelers are always a favorite of mine, and we caught
them at our favorite pub. Vagabond is the other person
we love, and we usually run into him as we are walking
the grounds. He's a vocalist/guitarist who has been
performing here for more than 25 years. He lost his
wife two years ago, and last year was very hard for
him, but he looks much better this year.

The new corset I purchased last year fits great, and the shirt and skirt alterations I asked my tailor to do also were perfect, so all-in-all, I'm pretty pleased. I consider it a successful day. We returned home in mid-afternoon and sat on the patio for a while, then had a nice, light dinner and a relaxing evening watching pre-season football. My Denver Broncos will play Minnesota next week in a pre-season game. That should be a fun one, so I hope I'll have a chance to see it, or at least some of it.

Can you see the faint silvery lines extending from one
fern leaf to the other? The light was just perfect to
capture the silk of a spider web between the fern
fronds. It was a magical day all around, even in my
little garden.

So, a fairly boring post today. Sorry about that. My mental schedule for the week(s) this morning has me cleaning the bathrooms on Wednesday, the Den on Friday, and setting up Sharon's room on the Wednesday following, with her flying in next week Thursday. I'm glad I insisted on getting my Friday this week because I'm going to need it. DH has to work Wednesday through Saturday this week (as well as today), so it's a rare "working five days" week for him. He's grumpy already, but Chickie is taking some vacation days for her Mom's surgery on Thursday and going to the Fair on Saturday. He'll just have to deal.

Have an excellent Monday and I'll be back tomorrow. Slava Ukraini.
