A Day of Cleaning and Rain and Rainbows - Especially the Magic of Rainbows

I had all intentions of cleaning the bathrooms thoroughly yesterday, as I left my blog and started my day. But the best laid plans can be run off course by other events, and such turned into the case for me. I did get the groceries purchased and a pill caddy purchased for DH within his parameters (less than $5. Actually, it was only $2.50, so I did quite well.)

DH wanted a small pill caddy for
one of his medications that he often
forgets to take. His instructions were
clear - "No more than $5". That was easy,
the size he wanted was only $2.49 and
I get 10% off, so I was within parameters.

I left the store, loaded my groceries into the trunk, and got into the car. Backing out, I looked to my left and saw the rainbow - actually, a double rainbow - perfectly positioned over my grocery store. I quickly snapped a couple of photos, pulled forward in the lot and parked again, then ran back inside. I wanted to share the beauty with Polly (my favorite check-out person), and Scott (her usual and very efficient bagger.) Polly immediately said I had to show Darlene in Customer Service, and then the rest of the check-out people crowded around to get a look too. Gwen asked me to send the photo to her so that she could share it with others, so I did. After spreading joy to everyone, I bounced back out to my car and went home to put my groceries away, while the rain kept falling, the sun kept shining, and the rainbow, although fading, kept shining in the sky.

This wonderful double rainbow was shining directly
above my neighborhood grocery store. I just had
to share the beauty with the people I see there every
few days, so I parked the car and went back inside to
show the photo to the check-out crew. The second
rainbow is very faint, but it's definitely there. This just
made my entire day special and wonderful.

I figured that boded well, so after I unloaded my groceries and headed back out to buy one thing at Whole Foods that I can't find at my local grocer, I returned home and took a look around me. The breakfast nook was a mess. The table always is a mess - I have a small stack of magazines and catalogs, DH has a much larger pile (actually several piles) of newspaper sections he's pulled for this or that reason. The floor was a mess - piles of things to go through everywhere, and the drapes. The drapes! They were filthy and I just couldn't stand it any more.

The breakfast nook looks clean and tidy
again. (I know the wallpaper is horrid - it's
been horrid for the many years we've lived
here. We just haven't wanted to strip it and
put up something new, or paint. Maybe once
we retire we can finally upgrade our kitchen area.)

I pulled out the step stool and began pulling down one of the two sets of drapes. Several hours later, the floor was completely clear, the recycling bin was already 1/2 full, the drapes, for both windows, had been washed and rehung, and the floor was completely clear of "stuff". I had a wonderful feeling of serious accomplishment and went to sit outside in the light rain and watch for hummingbirds for a while (I had four of them in the 1/2 hour or so I sat outside). All in all, it was a very successful day, and the garden got a nice soaking from the mild rain we had most of the day. When I walked into the kitchen to make dinner, I smiled. The drapes looked great.

Time is just flying by and the summer is coming to an
end. Renaissance Festival is always my signal that
we're ready to enter Fall, and I'm really not ready for
the change of seasons quite yet. But ... despite my not
being ready, it's going to happen.

Tomorrow is our first excursion to Renaissance Festival for the season. I think it's going to be comfortable temperatures, and the rain we're expecting today should be gone by Sunday, so we'll also be dry. Summer is drawing to a close. We didn't get as much done as we had hoped, but we had some very positive experiences too (despite the falling tree, the many bugs eating up the garden, and the rather sparse crops we were able to grow). Summer is ending, Fall is coming, and Sharon will be here in less than two weeks. I have three more days of cleaning before she arrives, so lots more still to do. Have an excellent weekend and I'll be back on Monday. Slava Ukraini.
