LJ Idol Voting is Open and the Olympics (of Course) Because I'm an Addict

After consideration, I decided to make my LJ Idol stories unlocked. I'm keeping my additional posts friend-locked, but unlocking the particular stories. I love making new DW and LJ friends, though, so I'm also "friending" a lot of the people reading it. Although I went through the entire list of people from LJ Light last year and friended each of them, the actual LJ Idol universe is a larger group of people, so it seemed easier to go this route for everyone.

The Real LJ Idol is operating once again, and my story
for "Black Rainbow" was written for it. The group is
open for any to vote in, and votes for stories open today.
According to my friends who have participated for longer
than I have, anyone - member or general public - can
vote for a story. If you vote for mine, I appreciate your support.
If not, or if it's too complicated, no problem either. I'm
really not writing for the competition, I'm writing
because I love to write. I like the challenge of
writing to a prompt.

LJ Idol a competition of sorts - people accumulate votes and are voted off "the island". I must admit I haven't watched "Survivor", the TV show, in more than a decade, but I understand the concept. I joined for the sake of writing to a prompt, however. I find that to be a lovely challenge and I enjoy exercising my brain and honing my writing skills. I suspect I'll continue writing to the prompts for as long as I'm allowed to receive them, whether I'm voted off "the island" or not.

Nathan Chen got the highest score ever given for a
Men's Short Program in Olympic history. I have still
to see the full program, although I've seen bits and
pieces. He's come a long way from his disastrous
short program of 2018.

I'm enjoying watching the Olympics. Because I'm watching after the "live" events - using Peacock, I can pause the action. That's lucky, because it took me all day yesterday to watch the final curling match, which was EXCELLENT, and I still haven't had an opportunity to watch Nathan Chen's short skating program, which got the highest score EVER for a short program!

"Well Done" to the Italian curling team for mixed
doubles competition. They won over a talented
Norwegian team who were awarded the Silver
Medal. Sweden ended up taking the
Bronze. The USA placed 8th in the field. Men's
competition begins today.

Bravissimo to Italy and a Gold Medal well deserved. It was a hard-played and very tactical match and they came through with style. Next Winter Olympics will take place in Cortina, the home town of the Italian female curler - Stephania Constantini. She'll have the opportunity to play for people she knows and hopefully won't let that additional joy and pressure get to her. She's an amazingly talented curler.

Eileen Gu, a US citizen who skiis for China, won the gold
in the Big Air competition yesterday. It was a beautiful
jump and a tight competition, but I'm not sure it was any
better than the second place winner from France. I have
problems with Eileen Gu. Raised in the US by her Chinese
Grandmother and Mother, she represents the People's
Republic of China instead of the USA. But the POC
doesn't allow dual citizenship. So ... it leaves me
questioning how this is really working. She's young,
only 18 years old, and has that idealism that youth
is famous for. She's sure she can change the world.
Maybe she can, but I wouldn't guarantee that in the POC.

Although I did get a couple of strands entered into my Etsy account, I left my most important information at home, so I couldn't complete each entry. Looking through my notes on my desk today, I'm not finding that piece of paper either, so I'll have to search some more, or try to reconstruct it as best I can. I need to get some serious work done on that page today, between the shopping and making my next batch of "Ogre Juice" for the next few days. I'm going to wrap this up now and get moving. Have an excellent Wednesday and I'll be back tomorrow.
