My new cellphone was delivered yesterday. It will take a while for me to activate it, transfer the data, and do the final upgrade, but I'm excited. I purchased my current cellphone in March 2018. I remember it clearly - it was a March blizzard, and my trusty Motorola had suddenly died - completely and totally belly-up. I can't do without a cell phone. It's the number called by my security company if there's a problem at the shop or at home. It's what I read on and what I listen to music on. It's my link to my many friends around the world as well as my family. It's an essential appliance - no less important than a functional refrigerator and my washing machine.
After months of research, I decided I wanted a Google Pixel 6 with 256K. Now ... with the chip shortage, a lot of phones are difficult to find. I couldn't find a physical Pixel 6 with the higher memory around me at all - not at Target or Best Buy, and not at Verizon. I had an appointment set up at Verizon for last week, but cancelled it because they didn't have the phone I wanted and I didn't want to settle for the 128K version. So I checked all-mighty Amazon and quite quickly found exactly what I wanted, in stock. I had to pay up front instead of over 24 months, but I was fine with that. I went ahead and ordered it, along with a case and screen protectors. Everything arrived at the shop yesterday, and it's beautiful.
It's been four years since I last had to transfer data and activate a new phone. I wouldn't have decided to purchase a new phone, but my old one hasn't been keeping a charge and has had a few operational issues that makes me think it's slowly dying. It was considerate of it to give me a lot of warning, I didn't need a repeat of the prior time when my Motorola quite literally died in a day. I had to choose a new phone at Verizon quickly without hesitation that time. Of course, in the long run that was good,. I didn't like their choices in Motorola and ended up with my first Google phone, which I still love. Great phone - even if it is dying on me!
So, I'll very carefully work out exactly what I need to do to transfer my data over to the new phone, make sure I have the proper SIM card in the slot (those are easy to get and not super expensive if I need to buy one), and hopefully, within a week or so, I'll have switched over to my new phone. I'm excited.
I also brought home the complete array of Swarovski crystal cubes from the shop yesterday. I want to try something different for my photos, and I want to see how well it will work. No time to do that today, but it's on my Friday agenda. I think I'll have to pull out my spotlights from the basement closet (that's where I keep my larger photography items - sweeps and spots). Have an excellent day, enjoy the full moon, be kind to others and smile. A smile can work miracles. I'm off to the swimming pool and I'll be back tomorrow.
