Ren Fest and Future Plans - Are Tomatoes A Trigger Food For Me?

We had a day of walking at the Ren Fest yesterday, my pedometer said 12,000+ steps by the end of the day. I decided against my parasol and sunscreen, opting instead to wrap myself in cotton clothing and my wonderful silk scarf that DH had purchased for me several weeks ago. It worked fine, although by the time we left my face felt cooked. Still, my head didn't burn at all, and the sun was blazing from a cloudless sky.

I wore my long silk scarf similar to
how this one is tied, but not quite so
neatly, and with it a bit farther down my
forehead. I wanted to minimize my
exposure to the sun. It worked really
well.

We wanted to watch some different groups/performers, so we hunted Vagabond out at his first set in one pub, and then walked around to the other side of the Festival Grounds to catch Tuey's show. Both performers are long-timers. Vagabond has played Fest for 39 years, although he took a one-year break early on, so only received his 25-year appreciation seal in 2019. His wife, Barbara, who passed away from congestive heart failure last year, had been performing for 40 years. Tuey was celebrating his 40th year of balancing, juggling and playing with fire.

Tuey is known as a comic juggler and works
with balls, balance and fire in numerous ways,
He's always entertaining to watch, but I hadn't
stopped to watch one of his shows for a few years.

Although I continued my hunt for a corset, I really wasn't finding anything I really liked, and being back into a solid medium size, I'm back to finding large empty spaces where clothing should hang. The problems of fitting into the mainstream once again. Although it was a hot day, there was a nice breeze blowing through the Festival grounds, which made it seem cooler than it actually was. Thank goodness. I would have roasted in all black with my headscarf firmly tied around my head.

In March, while doing a kid's show at the Stillwater Library
(city is a city East of the Twin Cities, at the far east edge of
the state), Tuey's ladder had a problem with the feet. That
caused Tuey to fall forward against the wooden platform he
was on, hitting his head very hard and breaking both of
his wrists. He had to have surgery on both of his wrists,
so his current show is slightly less elaborate, but he's
healing really well. In the photo above, he's shortly out
of surgery. You can see the black and blue on the left
side of his face from where he hit his head. It left him
with a serious concussion that he's also still overcoming.
Nonetheless, his show was marvelous and very entertaining.

We called it an early day and got home just in time for the football game, which was an edge-of-the-seat game by the end of it. In the end we lost by a single point - a missed extra point kick after our second goal scored. It was hard fought, but we made a few awful decisions and it cost us. We had Chipotle for dinner, and I realized, after the fact, that the red salsa I put on (I use my own salsa, not the one from Chipotle) had lots of tomatoes in it. Damn. I think tomatoes are one of my food triggers for the hives I'm dealing with, and here I put on two liberal tablespoons worth on my chicken, beans and lettuce. *sigh*

I adore "El Jefe" salsa because it's the
first salsa I've ever found that's using
real New Mexican Hatch chile peppers.
It was only after I had two heaping
soup spoonfulls on my chicken that I
read the ingredients and realized that
three of the top four are tomatoes.
*sigh* If tomatoes are a trigger food
for me, I didn't do myself any favors
by choosing my own salsa.

Tomorrow I see an Allergist at 7:40 am on the recommendation of my Dermatologist. Tomorrow's post might be quite short, because I don't want to be late for the appointment, and would prefer to not leave my laptop in the car while I'm getting looked at. I want to drop it off at the shop first, then turn around and head to the clinic.

Tomorrow will be a back and forth day. I'll have to
keep a close eye on the clock. I don't want to be
late for my appointment with my allergist. I'm
actually seeing a male doctor - it's very rare for
me to work with male physicians, but, my
dermatologist recommended him, so I'll take her
word and consider him a good choice.

On that note, I'm out of here. I'd better look up my property taxes, they need to be paid this month, and I have to make sure I have enough money in the Joint checking account to cover the payment as well as our usual bills. Oh joy! LOL Enjoy your final two days of the season, on Wednesday we switch once again. I'll be back tomorrow.
