Wrapping Up the Olympics and Ready for my Bone Scan

I start out today (after my exercise and blog) by getting a bone density scan. This is the next-to-last item on my physical exam list (the final piece being a colonoscopy which I'm scheduling for later this year). I'm really anxious to see the results of the scan. Last time I had osteopenia in both hips and osteoporosis in the top of my left femur. I would love to see some improvement in that. I don't need to be getting my life into a new track and suddenly be crippled. That's simply unacceptable.

My Doctor is concerned because my osteoporosis
is in my femur - the large bone of my leg as it
enters the pelvic region in the hip. She says that's
the most frequent area for bone fractures, and
I'm 100% against experiencing a hip fracture,
thank you VERY much. I'm hoping the scan
today will show an improvement.

DH went out to the grocery store yesterday mid-afternoon. We started making dinner later, and guess what? He bought himself ground beef and other fixings so that he could make himself tacos! Hmmm. I waited until he was finished with the stove area, then made my next set of three tacos and a nice side salad. Mine were delicious, I assume he was happy with his as well. Later, while watching the conclusion of the Olympics, he came up from a quick trip to the kitchen with a cupcake. I think the last one of those I've had was right around Valentine's Day. I looked at him eating it and I didn't even want a taste. I was rather surprised - I used to love my occasional cupcakes. I guess I love the way I feel now even more.

Byerly's has some really awesome cupcakes, and a year
ago I would have been eating a lemon or raspberry one
while Hubby had his chocolate. But I'm not doing that
right now, and I found I really didn't miss it at all.

The Olympics have ended and I have to say, I was disappointed with the coverage. I caught some of almost everything I wanted to see - a lot of equestrian (steeplechase and stadium jumping. Dressage just doesn't really do it for me at all). I caught some of the diving, which was marvelous. I saw some of the rhythmic gymnastics, which I always adore. I saw WAY too much water polo, gymnastics and track & field, and basketball - too much basketball. The games that were on early in the morning - 4:00 am or so my time, usually ended up being rebroadcast at night, so I ended up seeing things twice that I really didn't have a lot of interest in.

I loved the new event(s) called Sport Climbing. The three
different sections - speed, boulder and technical - were
all varied and interesting, and it was really fun to watch.

I saw the new events and loved them - Sport Climbing was awesome. I loved the BMX and the Skateboarding events, and Surfing was wonderful. I think Paris eliminated Baseball, Softball and Karate from the events, but they're keeping the new events and they're adding breakdancing, which should be interesting.

Here are the representations of the sports that will
be contested during the Paralympics in Tokyo later
this month. If you've never watched a Paralympics,
it's well worth the watch. These athletes mean
business and play rough.

Mark your calendars. The Paralympic Games begin on the 24th and go through September 5th. The athletes will compete in 537 events in 22 sports including two new ones - badminton and taekwondo. It's unfortunate that it will intersect with Sharon's visit. We'll be head-deep in the State Fair and Ren Fest and I'll be busy trying to figure out what I want/need to do with my life. I suspect I'll stick things out here through this year, but that's not guaranteed. I know I'll have to stick things out through Sharon's visit - there's just too much to do before she comes to add separation/counseling/divorce into the mix. It will give me time to really get a firm plan in place, though. So that's not all bad. And DH can be a lot of fun too, when he's not always being crabby. I've managed for the past 40+ years, I can manage for a few more months.

The Closing Ceremony for the Olympics was lovely, and
relatively low-key, with the athletes mingling in the four
corners of the arena, and Tokyo saying its' good-bye to
them. The sneak peak of Paris was wonderful too. I'm
really looking forward to the Paris Olympics - at least
Paris is only 7 hours ahead of us instead of 18 hours.

So, I'm out of here. I hope you had a chance to watch the finale of the Olympics yesterday, it was quite marvelous, and I also enjoyed the filmed introduction to Paris that was presented as the French flag was raised in the stadium. It was an odd Olympics - without fans at the venues - but it worked in a rather marvelous manner. The athletes pulled together and supported each other in ways they had not before. I think it brought a unity of love of sport and competition that hadn't been present in earlier games. Maybe Covid taught all of us something these past few weeks. Have a great day, I'll be back tomorrow.
