The Olympics Are Back - Here's What Events Will Be Held Over the Weekend

I watched the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics for as long as I could last night, but I get up VERY early in the morning and eventually had to leave DH and the TV behind me to go to sleep. So I missed the USA's entry into the arena, the lighting of the cauldron, and that amazing drone show above the stadium. So far things seem to be going smoothly, but today is the first day with a lot of events and a lot of options on how to watch them. I'll have to rely on Peacock, although I might try streaming NBCOlympics.com on my laptop at work since the TV is in the back, away from the customer sales floor. I can have the TV on and hear the audio, but I can't watch anything. Chickie will be streaming on her phone, I'm sure. We all love the Olympics, and since she's a serious bicycle racing fan and there are events in that sport today, that's what she'll probably be trying to watch.

He's back, and just as nice to look at. Here's
Tonga's Pita Taufatofua once again, oiled beautifully
and proudly strutting for his nation. He's a lovely
man and it's been wonderful to see him over the
years. He's not quite as muscular as prior years,
but a nice piece of eye candy for these aging eyes
nonetheless. LOL

Let me just give you a basic itinerary here.

On Saturday, the following events will be held (you'll have to check your individual broadcasters to see when/if they are covering the event).

Archery, Badminton, Basketball 3x3, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Cycling, Equestrian (Dressage), Fencing, Field Hockey, Gymnastics (Men's Semifinal Teams), Handball, Judo, Rowing, Shooting, Soccer (aka Football for those outside the USA), Softball, Swimming (Heats), Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis (first round), Volleyball, Water Polo and Weightlifting.

It's a pretty full schedule, and events are shown on a lot of different venues - from standard network to specialty channels such as Telemundo.

I didn't get to see the drones until this morning,
but I admit I'm seriously impressed at the programming
ability that went into making the drone globe. Bravo,
Tokyo. That was a plus. I also liked the fact that they
featured wheelchair-bound athletes in their lineup
of torch bearers, and also in their dancers for the
introduction visuals. The moment of silence for the
Israeli victims of the Massacre in Munich was also
very appreciated. It's all too easy to forget these
things and the reminder and memorial was well done.

Sunday's events include the beginning of four days of Surfing competition. Here are Sunday's events, so you can plan ahead for the weekend.

Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Basketball 3x3, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Canoe/Kayak, Cycling, Diving, Equestrian, Fencing, Field Hockey, Gymnastics (Women's Semifinal Teams), Handball, Judo, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Skateboarding, Soccer, Softball, Surfing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo, Weightlifting.

As I mentioned, check your own broadcast schedule and computer options to see what you'll be able to watch in your area of the world. There are quite a few things I'll want to see, but DH is focused on watching on Network only, so I might be watching some Peacock streaming on my phone or NBCOlympics.com live streaming on my computer or phone while he has the TV on six feet away from me. I want to see Surfing and Skateboarding. Diving is a long-time favorite of mine, and I like some of the shooting and archery events, and kyak can be a total rush. I'm a bit out of the "run of the mill", but that's not unusual for me - LOL.

I wish all of you a wonderful weekend filled with joy, beautiful weather, family and friends. I'll be back on Monday. Enjoy the beginning of the 2021 Olympics.
