Can Things Be Perfect? ...Maybe...

So today I wonder if the human mind will ever allow things to be perfect. Why such a weird thought at 4:54 a.m.? Well, why not? Why can't you, as you awaken, do your morning routine and sip on your first beverage of the day while catching up with your emails and posts decide "I think today will be a perfect day?" Why can't you make that decision and then go out among others of the big wide world and make it happen? And what would constitute your perfect day? It more than likely wouldn't be the same as my own definition of a perfect day, nor would it echo your neighbor, the local librarian or your cat. But you can work for it. You can make the decision that when you go to bed tonight you will look back on the day and be happy with every interaction you engaged in, every activity you were involved with and the locations in which you chose to live. So, make that decision and make today your perfect day.

Remember - do no harm. While you are living your perfect day, try to only have positive ramifications from your interactions with other people. In other words, don't go out and rob banks, commit assault, or engage in negative exchanges of words. Negativity and harm don't belong in perfect days so - be kind and do no harm.

Do no harm is a byword when it comes to repairs and yesterday's jewelry repair was a perfect example. The woman will love the new piece - although she couldn't find all of the pearls from the piece, she did manage to find most of them and I ended up only having to shorten the piece by one bead per strand. Not too bad. But, because the pearls were (1) artificial - not the end of the world, but ick anyway, and (2) something that she wore ALL the time, they were (3) kindof grody - in other words, they were dirty. Now, normally I would wash pearls this dirty in a gentle soap solution, dry each one (that would have been close to 1000 beads in this particular project) and then restring them. But these were artificial, and not really very good artificial. I had to make a decision and it came down to the fact that I didn't think they would survive the washing/drying process. So, working with the "do no harm" mantra, I had to leave them scuzzy. *sigh* It didn't make me happy, but it's better than destroying something that's been entrusted to my care. The actual restringing went well and I'll do the last bits this morning at the shop since I (silly me) had left my glue sitting next to my computer there instead of bringing it back home.

My perfect day allows me some creative license though, and I had that. The second piece I worked on yesterday was a lot of fun. A long-time good customer had purchased a gift for a mutual friend and consulted with me about ideas on how best to string it/make it really pop. She's a seed bead artist and this piece called for a more dramatic approach. We worked on a color palette and a design, but she came back to me a few weeks later and asked me to do it for her. On my part, I expanded the color palette and firmed up the design. I sat down with that yesterday and began playing. It's coming together really nicely and I think she'll be really pleased. Of course, at the very end shortly before calling Aearwen for our weekly schmooze-fest, I ended up overturning the piece onto the floor, spilling crystals across the carpeting. At least crystals sparkle. I think I found them all, and since it was only from one side of the piece and a small section, I'll be able to recapture it quickly.

The evening was topped off by a great dinner and a magnificent hockey game making the series tied at 2-2 going to Chicago on Saturday. During commercial breaks we would flip over to MasterChef and that looked like a great episode also. We'll catch that on on-demand later in the week. Don't like missing this one - it's a fun show.

TJ Klune (l) and Eric Arvin (r)
Haven't read their work? I recommend "Into This River I Drown" by TJ Klune
and "Woke in a Strange Place" by Eric Arvin

So - in it's own little way, yesterday was an almost perfect day. There were small bumps in the road, but they were comparatively tiny. Yeah - I was pleased about the day. And then this morning I found out that Eric Arvin and TJ Klune have decided to become a real partnership with Eric moving to Arizona to live with TJ. I love happy endings and these two are quite the pair. Congrats, guys!
