My Studio Day was actually quite productive even though I was running around on errands until almost noon. I received confirmation that people are indeed wonderful, helpful, and so very friendly. I say this because on one of my errands I met Wayne.
I had to drop by my local sporting goods store for some fishing line. We use it at the shop for some of the sample strands of beads, usually stone, that hang on our walls and had run out. So I needed to get some new line to repair a broken strand that has been awaiting restringing until I could get new supplies. After choosing the appropriate type and weight of line I started looking at the variety of fishing poles. There are so many of them and each has a different function.
I use fishing and fly fishing in several of my stories and it pokes its head into my o-fic novel also, but it was many long years ago since I last held a rod and I never really knew that much about the sport. So I asked if there might be someone in the department who would be willing to talk with me about fly fishing. The very nice man called Wayne to my rescue.
Wayne, an older man who has fly fished for many years, spent almost a half-hour with me explaining the rods, lines, casting methods, flies, nymphs, and so many other things. By the time I thanked him sincerely for spending his time and helping my novel with some factual information I felt much more comfortable with the sport. I'll get my notes written up later today and stored into my research file and when the occasion comes up in my o-fic and my characters grab their rods to go to the river, I'll know why they want a 9-foot long #5 rod with a 5 pound line. Sweet!
Add that in to a productive writing day, a good laundry day and a fantastic hour conversation with Aearwen that focused around music instead of writing (although so many things were discussed) and the day was marvelous. Today we're back to the deep freeze again...*sigh*.
