Winter Has Come

Well, winter has finally come. We got a small amount of snow last night, just enough to require a quick shovel this morning and to make the roads icy. The best is yet to come, though (does my sarcasm come through)? We're under a Winter Storm Watch now with the possibility of 3"-6" more snow coming starting this afternoon and going through tomorrow. Although this will make people think of Christmas and gifts (up here in the snow belt, people need the white stuff to seriously think about the season), it will also require a lot of physical labor by both DH and I to get the driveway cleared, the small house shoveled, the shop shoveled, and my DH also shovels out his father's corner house. It's a lot of work and we're not getting younger.

I think I have finalized writing and editing my Solstice poem for my holiday cards, and started entering the text last night in preparation for printing. I'm very pleased with how the cards are working out - they are starting to take on personality. The green marking pens that I bought at Dick Blick Art Supplies were perfect and I was able to get the cover design colored in over lunch yesterday. I'm really happy with the look of this year's card so far.

A book was recommended to me by an LJ acquaintence. The book is "Now That I'm Out, What Do I Do? Thoughts on Living Deliberately" by Brian McNaught. I have been reading through it to get a better feel for male homosexual perspectives so that male homosexual characters that I write might be portrayed with more understanding and better accuracy. I'm finding it an excellent read, even though there are parts that date it. I am recommending it to all of you. It's really making me think, and that's always a good thing. You may also find it of value to flesh out characters in your own writing.

Back to my holiday cards...so much fun!
