Kindness

I can state, without reservation or hesitation, that walking at the Renaissance Festival is MUCH nicer on my feet than walking on the grounds of the State Fair.  We went to the State Fair on Saturday night after I got off work.  I had been on my feet all day and my feet were sore.  By the end of the evening I had been limping for a couple of hours and could barely move because of pure pain.  As much as I wanted to stay for the fireworks (usually scheduled for approx 10:30 pm), I gave up about 10pm and we got the car and went home.  We were both in such pain that we didn't sleep very well, and we were up early to get to Ren Fest.  I could barely walk first thing in the morning, but by the time we left for the Fest I was mobile and my walking stick certainly helped.

This is the map of the State Fairgrounds.  We
walked all over these from East to West,
North to South several times on Saturday night.  It
was a LOT of walking and I was more than
ready to call it a night.  Can't wait to go
back on Friday with Sharon, though!  So
far for the first three days, our attendance
has been 427,504 people.  YES, that's
a LOT of people going to the Fair.

Renaissance Festival was wonderful.  We walked, found patches of shade with friendly oak or ash trees or comfortable stones to rest against, and had some food.  But it was really hot again - in the mid-90's F (34.4 C), and we decided to call it a day in mid-afternoon.  I wore a high-neck long-sleeve shirt and my skirt because I got so burned last weekend that I didn't dare allow any sun to get to me.  That worked pretty well.  And we both decided that walking on non-pavement was a LOT nicer to the feet (no real surprise there).  I also looked at our temps and smiled a bit.  I am very aware that by the last weekend of the Fest (the first weekend of October) these high temps will be a misty memory and we'll be huddling in our cloaks and wearing our heavier outfits to stay warm.  It's part of the fun - being flexible.
