Congratulations go out to Alberto Contador, Andy Schleck and Dennis Menchov - the top three winners in Le Tour de France 2010. This year's Tour was a tough tour - from cobblestones early on to cresting Col de Tourmelet twice. Throughout it all, Alberto and Andy were seconds from each other as were Dennis Menchov and Sammy Sanchez. Alberto ended up winning by a total of 39 seconds in a race that took almost 90 hours to ride. That's pretty darned impressive. Since Andy is three years younger than Alberto, he'd better watch out. Andy will be on that top step soon, I'm sure. The battle for third was also tight, and it was Sammy in the lead until the final time trial when Dennis put in the ride of his life, to pass Sammy and win the right to stand on the podium in Paris. And, of course, Mark Cavendish won the sprint in Paris - that makes five stages that he won this year alone. Pretty incredible. Now my summer may continue - LOL. Oh...and Radio Shack won the Team competition by less than 10 minutes - so all of the battles this year were very, very tight.
Le Tour in Paris! Thanks to all of the riders for a thrilling July!
And I have a new relative. My neice, Mary Davini, gave birth over the weekend to a beautiful baby girl who is named Isabella Josephine. I absolutely love the name! Welcome to this wonderful screwed-up world, little Bella. Even though it is screwed up, it is still the most beautiful place in the universe and I hope you have the opportunity to see a lot of its' beauty as you grow up. Her parents, Mary and Nick, are great people and I know they will raise a fabulous daughter. Congrats, Mary and Nick!
