Many years ago, in a land far, far away, my "sister" Maja lived in the Twin Cities with her husband, two sons, and dog. They were a seemingly happy family and I loved getting together with her on Saturday mornings to share coffee and stories before I had to open the shop and get to work. She was creative and talented and I gave her a book that I had purchased at a store in Denver. The book was the best book I've ever found on silk painting and I've never found another copy. Since those happier days, my sister got divorced, moved numerous times, and dropped below the radar. I miss her and so rarely hear from her now that I think she's hiding, not willing to face the possible censure that she would receive for poor decisions made. And she still (I hope) has the book (as well as a painted silk piece that she did for me as a gift and took back to redo - still waiting for that one ). I wish I could remember the name of the book. I have a lot of sources for unusual and out-of-print books, now, and I possibly could get another copy for myself.
In the absence of the name of the book, however, I ordered three books on silk painting that should be in my hands within a few weeks (some vendors are faster, and at least one of these is coming from the UK). I am hoping that they will give me the information that I need to bring my BFAC 2011 project into the next step, but I have a lot of background work to do before I actually work with the silk, so the delay in delivery is not going to be a serious problem. I do wish, however, for more contact with my sister and for the actual title and author of the book that I gave her in happier times, so long ago. Times past...chances lost...memories made.
