Swimming and the Minnesota State Fair - Writing be Damned, I Have the State Fair Coming Up!

Today starts my final three days swimming in the outdoor pool. I'll miss it, but I won't miss the run back and forth from it when the weather turns colder. I do remember one year when they were doing maintenance on the indoor pool and we stretched the outdoor pool into late October. It was darned COLD to run in and out, and I swear I remember light snow one day - or maybe not ... it might just have been my brain telling me it was too cold to be outdoors in a swimsuit. But, this year they're closing the outdoor pool down earlier than usual to do maintenance and repair for the outdoor venue. Next week, we're back indoors.

One of the things I really loved about the outdoor pool were
the sunrises we would get while swimming. Occasionally
they were so breathtaking that we all took a break from
our laps and just looked and marveled. We don't get
the chance to see the sunrise in the indoor pool. We get
the sky, but not the horizon since our windows face
South, not East.

I'm going to enjoy these last three days to the maximum of my ability. Swimming outdoors in the Olympic pool is a joy and a challenge. It's a bit of a different cadence, getting used to a different rhythm. At least I'll continue on with my audio book, so that's a serious positive, and Sharon arrives in slightly more than 48 hours, which is also a positive. I can hardly wait!

On Saturday night we had a serious wind and rain storm
run through the area, causing the Fair to cancel their
Grandstand show for the night, and people to rush for
shelter. There was quite a lot of wind damage in the
Twin Cities because of the storm. Chickie's neighbor
lost a large branch from a big tree on his property.
Fortunately, we were relatively untouched in my suburb.

Fair traffic was absolutely horrible for the first few days, but yesterday wasn't bad at all. DH got stuck at the front entrance of the Fairgrounds while two school busses disgorged their patrons at the Main Gate. He said it took two stoplights of time, but he couldn't go past because the STOP sign that swings out from the side of the busses were both extended. So, he was a good person, obeyed the law, and waited, rather impatiently, until he could finally move and go over the overpass to get to the shop. The Fairgrounds are on the north side of the overpass, my shop is three block south of the other end of the overpass.

There's nothing quite like the Minnesota State Fair. It's one
of the largest in the nation, and one of the best attended.
This is the first year after Covid when things really seem
to be getting back to normal footing.

I'm rather grateful that I've gotten my third strike for LJ Idol. The current theme is "Chengy" - a description of someone who is out of date or trying too hard. I find myself fitting that definition, or at least I have fit into it over several times in my life, and they were always uncomfortable times. I feel fairly certain that I would have claimed my third strike on this one merely because I wouldn't have the time to write it adequately with Sharon arriving in a bit more than 48 hours. But if I do come up with a storyline, I have two days where I can play with the theme a little. Having the pressure to produce off is rather delightful.

The giant Ferris wheel is back again this year, and I can't
wait to ride it. Last year Sharon and I rode it twice - once
during the day, and again at night. It's like two different
worlds, the daytime and the nighttime Fairs. We love
them both. DH will join us Saturday night and of course
we'll spend all day here as a group on Sunday and
go again as a group to Renaissance Festival on Monday.

So, I'm off to the pool. Have an excellent Tuesday and I'll be back tomorrow for my final day of cleaning and preparation. I still have to get Sharon's bedroom completely set up and her TV functional (sometimes that can be interesting - LOL). It's going to be wonderful to have my oldest, dearest friend back in our home again. Have a wonderful Tuesday and I'll be back tomorrow. Slava Ukraini.
