A Long List for my "Day Off" and Rumbles of Thoughts and Ideas

It's my "day off" and it's a busy, busy day. It's 5:15 am, I've already meditated, run two miles, taken a shower and my first load of laundry is in the washer. I have a list of six different things I need to do - either shopping or on the computer (a Zoom meeting at 2:00 pm, for example), and I'll top off the day by a nice conversation with Aearwen at 4:00 before running to the grocery store for a chicken right after we disconnect. It's also trash day, so I've got about an hour before I have to take a quick break to put the bins out at the curb.

My "To Do" lists are NOT this organized
or pretty. I grab the nearest pen and jot
down my notes to myself as soon as they
occur to me, or else I'll forget them in the
slew of other thoughts crowding through
my mind. I could print out something this
pretty, but I'd never use it. Today's list happens
to be at the bottom of a quotation for paper
and envelopes for my holiday cards. I'm
still making a final decision on that too.

I'm solidly in pre-planning stages for holiday cards and working my way between two different styles. I can't order my cardstock until I've decided on which design I want to do, so right now, it's rock on one side, hard stuff on the other, and an undecided me in between. I've got to get to a decision fast, and I would love to go with my original decision, but may have to fall back onto plan #2. A lot hinges on a quick trip to Michael's Crafts this afternoon to take a look at some materials there. I might also take a quick look at a possible table for my knitting machine.

This adjustable fold-away desk/table might
do the trick for my knitting machine, but I'm
not sure I want to deal with the cost. I'll take
a closer look at Michael's this afternoon
while I'm out and about. It's actually available
at several places, including Wayfair, but
Michaels would be local so no delivery costs.
I'll need to measure my machine too - it has to
work where I intend it to. It's also more expensive
than I wanted, but that's secondary to function.

DH wants me to get the knitting machine away from the area I had been using it. It "gets in his way". Basically, I had it on the table next to the treadmill, and it was anything BUT in his way, but apparently it wasn't where he wanted it to be. When it gets down to reality, I'm the one on the treadmill six days a week, he's on it a maximum of 2 days, and often a week or more will go by without him being on the treadmill at all. So ... guilt? No. I really don't have any. But I wouldn't mine a dedicated table, IF I can find something that collapses so that I can easily put it away when I'm not using it. I don't want to add more clutter to my life.

I looked at my other two work surfaces - the one where my loom is set up, and the credenza directly behind it. Both of those have insufficient surface overlap to allow the clamps from the knitting machine to engage properly, and there's a LOT of torque that gets put on the machine in use. I have to have a strong connection to a solid platform, which is what I've got now. Unfortunately, I'm running out of options, and I'm nor sure a fold-away table will be sturdy enough either, but I'm willing to try.

"The Crocodile on the Sandbank" is a lovely
introduction to Amelia Peabody - a strong,
independently wealthy Victorian woman who
has always wanted to travel. I adore the series,
and had the privilege of listening to Barbara
Mertz in a lecture she gave in Denver at the
Natural History Museum. My dear friend,
Sharon, came with me that night. It was
magical, listening to her discuss Egypt,
her history with the area, and the series. Her
pen-name came from the names of her
two children - Elizabeth and Peter.

So, I've got to get going on my long list. One good thing, though. I loaded the first book of Elizabeth Peters lovely Amelia Peabody series up yesterday and started listening this morning. I had forgotten what a total delight they are, and I'm looking forward to listening to them throughout the winter. I think I'll need those hot suns of Egypt to keep me warm and cozy during the upcoming winter. Have an excellent Wednesday and I'll be back tomorrow.
