Yesterday was our first day at Renaissance Festival, and we really tried to be there on time, but it just wasn't to be. It was the little things that tripped DH up - remembering his mask, checking to make sure he had money and his ID, a couple of other things - oh, and that final cup of coffee in his to-go cup. I, on the other hand, was actually somewhat on time, but forgot the different route we needed to take to get to the Festival grounds now, which increases our travel time by 15 minutes. Topping it off, a train. Oh joy! A train came by on the tracks that extend south of the Festival grounds, holding a long line of cars hostage.

The trains don't usually hold up traffic into the Festival grounds, but they did yesterday. Oh well, we had a chance to sit in the car and wait it out. Joy! |
We finally made it to the ticket booth to get our medallions and our tickets for the day when the cannon went off. So, we missed the entire "Welcome back after the plague" speech from the King. At least, I suspect he probably mentioned the plague ... I certainly would have if I were in his Royal shoes.
It was a cool morning, so I dressed warmly. I knew it would get hotter, but I was willing to be hot in exchange for not being cold. On my slate for the day - find a new corset that would actually fit (my smallest corset is now so big I cam put my fists stacked between the fabric and my body), and I wanted to find a leather messenger bag that I could wear cross-strapped for things like my sunscreen and my extra mask. I didn't find either, although next week's corset selection should be massively better when one vendor receives their stock from the Colorado Renaissance Festival. We'll see.
I checked out every leather place, even those whose quality I really don't like, but couldn't find anything. Shelves weren't empty, but not full either. With Colorado and Bristol festivals still going on, it'll be another one or two weeks before our vendors have more stock.
There were several empty stalls, people who have been there and either are not in business any more, or who are skipping this year. But it was Highland weekend, so we did get to see the keg toss and the caber toss, two of our favorites. (The keg toss is an audience participation event while the actually Highland Games contestants have a chance to grab a meal and relax before the afternoon contests begin).

My scarf is in this palette, very similar to the plums with green and blue accents. It's just lovely. I want more - LOL. |
Many of my friends have rather extensive collections of "Lady of the Lakes" hand-painted silk scarves. I felt it my duty to start my own collection, so DH bought a lovely scarf for me in a wonderful plum color with green and blue accents, as an anniversary gift. I'm totally in love with the scarf. I'll be wearing it a lot.
We were home by 3:30 pm and had drinks on the patio before settling down to a relaxed and early evening. All in all, it was a lovely day. I hope your weekend was as nice, and that your week ahead will be wonderful as well. Have fun, be safe and please be kind. I'll be back tomorrow.
