I'm Toxic! Who Knew? LOL - I'm Quite Sure Enemies of My Youth Would Agree

I was super busy yesterday - not just in the kitchen, but I also got a start on Sharon's room, swept and cleaned off the outside front porch thoroughly, cleaned the kitchen, and harvested some more cherry tomatoes. Oh, and I took a nice, brisk walk in the morning to start my morning. While I was at the store, I asked the sushi chefs to make me a sashimi of tuna and salmon. They always make a lovely sashimi of 12 slices of fish separated by slices of avocado on a bed of lettuce over cucumber sticks, and it comes with soy sauce (I always use my own soy sauce though - no sugar or wheat in it), thinly sliced ginger and hot wasabi.

Sushi is raw fish around rice. Sashimi is just slices of
raw fish - no rice at all. Since rice is a grain, and I'm
pretty much off grains, I ask for sashimi, which they
are happy to make for me. I don't get it often, it's a
real treat, but they do a beautiful sashimi.

As I finally started my prep work for dinner. I was pulling out my lettuce, etc. for my salad, and I realized I had completely forgotten to eat my sashimi lunch. Well, that was fine, I'd have it for dinner along with my salad. When DH came home, I offered him half of my sashimi, which he turned down immediately because it didn't have rice - "real food" as he called it (he adores sushi, so I knew it wasn't the fish that was the problem). He then told me that he wouldn't eat anything I ate because it was all toxic.

OK then. I guess everything I eat and cook is now
toxic. It's not unexpected, and it makes my life a lot
easier, but it also hurts that he would say something
like that.

I guess that will simplify my life. I'll make my own meals again, and I'll be just fine with it. I've been doing that for most of the past few decades since he decided anything I cooked was horrible. I have a pound of excellent ground beef in my refrigerator for Sunday - I think I'll make some tacos. I have Siete taco shells and seasoning, and they should be lovely. I'd better pick up some shredded lettuce. I have an avocado and plenty of tomatoes to cut up. I'll have to check to see if I have any Hot Picante Sauce in the fridge.

I know I have several bottles of Pace
in the pantry. I do enjoy my picante
sauce. It has to be the hot, though.
Mild is a joke.

It's not that I enjoy cooking. I really don't. The last time he said he wouldn't eat anything I cooked it lasted for more than 20 years and it actually makes my life much easier when I don't have to deal with his food. I have no idea what will go on when he decides he wants to grill steaks and expects me to eat along with him. That's totally on him. I'll happily eat the meat, but I'll make my own side dishes, thank you very much.

I also have an open jar of El Jefe Red
sauce and also one of their Green sauce
in the refrigerator. I'll probably use that,
since they're already open, and I adore
this brand. They use Hatch chili peppers
from New Mexico. It's like returning home
every time I eat some of it.

So I'm continuing to watch the Olympics when I can, marveling at the varied performances of excellence, and enjoying the competition. I have to say, I'm disappointed in the USA perception that anything less than Gold is nothing. No! ANY medal is an achievement of a lifetime, something to be cherished, and something to be celebrated. Get with it, USA. Would you be able to compete in these events? No? Then celebrate these talented athletes who have competed in these Games - at ALL levels.

I have a box of Siete Taco Shells in my pantry. I love
the Siete brand - I've rarely been disappointed in
their products. I use their Almond Flour Tortillas
a lot too - you can sometimes find those in the
freezer case at your grocer.

I'm out of here. I hope you have a wonderful Saturday and weekend and I'll be back on Monday. Please, stay safe and be kind, try to make someone else's day just a bit happier.
