Decisions Made and Things To Do - Errands In the Snow

After much thought and several phone calls back and forth with my appliance company, I have decided to approve the expanded repair of my dryer instead of purchasing a new one. Although I found two LG models that would work with my budget and size requirements, I think I'd rather extend the life of my current dryer instead, and save some $ while doing that. It's not a perfect solution, but I think it's better at this time.

In the saga of "When the Dryer Turns", we last left our
housewife despairing the cost and parts needed for our
humble dryer repair. After consideration and discussion,
we will get the new heating element as well as the
idle transfer and the new belt. It's $500 vs $800 or
more, and I really don't have the larger amount to spend
right now, despite the newest stimulus check.

I'm quite sure the repair person won't be able to come out and do the repair tomorrow, so I'm looking at one or two more weeks of the laundromat for drying my wet clothes. Again - not ideal, but not horrible. It's a time sink that I can't really afford, but I have no choice. Eventually my dryer will be repaired and my life can return to "normal" chaos.

I do like corned beef and cabbage (and yes, I know it's
US traditional, not Irish traditional). However, there's a bit
of sugar in the brine for the corned beef, and sugars aren't
part of what I eat right now. So, I can't have it.

Tomorrow is St Patrick's Day and also our after-hours meeting with our accountant for our personal income taxes. I offered to cook a corned beef & cabbage for DH, but he decided against it. I wouldn't have been able to eat the corned beef (sugar in the spices), but the cabbage would have been lovely. I did find a recipe for Pork Stew with Stout and Caraway Seeds which sounded quite interesting, though. I'll run that by him today and see if he's game.

I'm offering this to DH as a corned beef meal
substitute. I can easily get this done before our
income tax appointment, and keep it warm in
the crock pot while we are out at our meeting.
He can have the potatoes, since those are off
menu this week.

I'll have to drop by the store today and pick up some fixings for dinner or I won't have anything in the house for me to eat. Last night was the last of my chicken and that leaves me with a lot of veggies, but no meat or eggs. At the least, I need to pick up some eggs so that I have a fall-back for the next  "Oh, there's no food although there is food, but there's no food..." emergency.

My fridge is totally stuffed, and needs a good clean-out.
Maybe I'll make that part of Friday's schedule. It sure could
use it.

Yesterday we were supposed to get 1"-2" of snow from the snowstorm that pounded Colorado. I guess no-one told the weather gods because we got closer to 4"-5". Although DH had the drive shoveled by the time I got home, I heard the plow go by twice overnight so I'll have plow detritus to deal with before I can head to the grocer, the post office and the store this morning. I guess I'd better get moving. Have an excellent day and I'll be back to wish all of you a Happy St Paddy's Day tomorrow. As always, please be kind, stay safe and wear your mask.
