Fathers Day Recap

Yesterday was Fathers Day here in the US, a day to celebrate our fathers, grill food outdoors on a variety of barbecue grills, and watch sports. We did all of the above, even though my own father has been dead for more than twenty years. But my father-by-marriage is still with us, in his mid-90's and a daily frustration for my husband. Nonetheless, we do care about him and try to make things nice for him.

Petunias are such a happy flower. We got a variety of colors for his garden.

DH decided to buy flowers for his garden and do some gardening work for him, so we purchased petunias for the garden. His father was out and about and didn't get back home until late afternoon, but we got busy and weeded his flower beds, cleaned out his birdbath, put his garden sculptures of the Virgin Mary and St Francis back into the garden from winter storage and watered the sod that we had bought last year's Fathers Day. We left the flowers for him to plant, but if they have not been planted by tomorrow, DH will go ahead and get them into soil then. We don't want the plants to due just because his father might be lazy or not "feeling up to it".

Yummmm....steak. I don't indulge in beef very often, only a couple of times
a year. Yesterday's steak was quite tasty.

After we were finished there, leaving a large bag of weeds next to the trash, we went home where DH cleaned the gutters of the house and mowed the lawn. I joined him to cut down a bit of tree that was bothering him and then we started the coals. Steak! I rarely eat beef at all, so steak was a treat (and most certainly NOT on my diet plan). Steak, pasta and brussel sprouts in butter sauce - so good. We followed that by watching the first episode of the sixth season of Inspector Lewis eating Dairy Queen Blizzards. Yes, I was really bad with my diet yesterday, but it was worth it. Today I'm back to being good. I hope all of you had a super weekend. Now it's time to buckle down and get back on track...
