Shifting Back to Second Gear - Statues and Miscellaneous

So the heat wave broke last night, the Freedom to Marry Act is now law, and I have a day off.  I can post about anything I want and don't feel an obligation to mention weather or politics - such richness.  But since it is my day off, I have (as usual) 1000's of errands to run, phone calls and appointments to make and three repair sitting here on my desk to do.  Repairs are good - money received for labor goes right into my pocket, and with Bead & Button Show less than three weeks away, I'll take any extra cash I can.

This sculpture by Odani Motohiko has such dynamic lines. The
motion of the horse and rider are evident in the tendrils. I really love
how the artist interpreted movement in a static form.

I have magazines strewn across my desk also - articles and ads that I want to read in more detail. Right now I have "Writing Contests", "Writer's Digest" and "Drawing" focusing on drawing heads scattered across my desk. I'm generally not much of a fan of "Writer's Digest" but there were a few things of interest to me in this latest issue. And I need all the help I can get re drawing heads - after more than thirty years of consciously not wanting to draw the human figure I have a lot of catching up to do. Next week I'll be starting to collect the materials and tools I'll need for my classes in Milwaukee, but today I can concentrate on personal things to make me happy.

This sculpture called "Horizons" is by Neil Dawson and is
part of a large sculpture garden in New Zealand. I wasn't going
to include it in my photos, but ended up being fascinated by the
entire concept. Enough so that I'm even giving you a second picture.

It's just kewl. I love the form, the interweaving showing front and
back of the fabric, the perspective...damn. I'm not always a fan of
contemporary art, but I really love this.

I'm looking forward to my weekly conversation with Aearwen - always such a good time. And I'll do laundry because I must. But I'm really unscheduled today and I'm reveling in the fact that maybe I'll get a bit of writing done too. I am SO behind on posting pieces to my archives it is rather pathetic. BAD ME! Maybe I can get some of that done too. So...it seems that my schedule has suddenly gotten filled after all :-)

I was surprised at how many manhole statues were our there, but I
really liked this one. That exquisite moment just before falling flat
has been beautifully captured here.

Yesterday I posted a status of an upside-down house for an on-line friend's birthday. I decided (because I liked the concept of unusual statuary so much) to put unusual statues for my photos today. I hope you've been enjoying my choices. Enjoy your Wednesday and *hugs* to all!
