Obviously I am supposed to be a mind reader. My DH and I had discussed dinner plans yesterday and had agreed that since we were both short on cash, we would go to a sandwich shop near our home and check out what their specials were. We got to the turn lane for the shop and I pulled into the lane preparing to turn. DH, who was in the car ahead of me, stayed in the lane that would take him straight. I beeped the horn at him, sometimes he will get into his thoughts and forget that he is diverging from the normal routine. He, apparently, "looked" at me - somehow sending me a mental message that I was supposed to follow him. I didn't - I went to the shop as we had planned. Obviously I just didn't get his mental message. After 10 minutes, he pulled up to the shop saying that I was supposed to have followed him in his "impulsive" mode because I always complain about how I want him to be more impulsive. If I had followed him, we would have had a nice sit-down dinner at the local Thai restaurant. But...because I couldn't "read" his mind, we ended up with a less satisfactory dinner from the sandwich shop. And he was crabby for the rest of the evening because I didn't "read" his mind and follow him. Geez! Sometimes I just can't win.
We are moving into the Memorial Day holiday weekend here in the US. Memorial Day will be celebrated on Monday, and the store is closed so I get one of my very rare 2-days-in-a-row times. I love it when I get this opportunity. But as we go into this weekend, please remember and honor those Veterans who you know and be sure to thank them for their service. They are all warriors and even though they do not fight hand-to-hand any more (and just think about how much more difficult it is to kill someone when they are directly in front of you as opposed to just pushing a button to send off a missile), they are still warriors. I would prefer to return to an age of edged weapons - there is something about making death less sanitary to make people think twice about inflicting it on others. But, we live in an age of powered long-distance weapons and it has made us mass killers from a distance - NOT a good thing. Nonetheless, these warriors have enabled the rest of us to live our daily lives without thinking about strapping on a weapon every time we leave our homes and that is a mighty gift. THANK YOU VETERANS!
