Saturday was an extremely busy day at the shop. I'm very happy about that, and I'm also grateful that it happened when I had a full staff on duty - before I was off to Bead & Button or any other conference, or before Chickie was on vacation. A day with the volume of people we had on Saturday is hard with three of us, and nearly impossible with just two of us. But we're a small store (in terms of physical area - NOT in terms of inventory available) and having more people gets crowded. Additionally, it's been a really lousy sales time for the past two years, so I wouldn't have scheduled anyone else for Friday/Saturday unless sales had been much better consistently. But Saturday's sales pulled our week out of the toilet and at least allowed us a small breathing space. We need more days like they used to be. Those days were a lot of fun!
I also had the chance to see an old friend on Saturday. Dawn gets into the shop rarely - she doesn't live close and she has four kids that tend to keep her running. She's an amazing bead and glass artist who has been a supporter of my own art efforts for a long time. Since I have space in my room at Bead & Button, and since I haven't yet heart a "yeah" or "nay" from my friend Raven, I offered to let her room with me in Milwaukee if she wanted. She hasn't gone to B&B for a couple of years and had just about decided that she could do a short trip, but had no hotel lined up. So I offered to share. It would be fun to share with her - we work in very different media most of the time, but we're both very serious about our art. All is good.
And I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who bid and won an item during this year's auctions for Beading For A Cure. Now, please start saving your pennies for next year's offerings. Next year will be outstanding and the items offered will be over-the-top. If you save now, you'll be able to get some items for yourself that will be unbelievable!
