So the Health Care Act has finally passed. It is a landmark law, but it is also a guarantee that now that it is passed, many more changes will be made to the law. I think it will be as bad as the laws governing the IRS by the time Congress is done tweaking it. So why are people getting so upset about? The only thing that I know for a fact is that we needed something in place. Too many people can barely afford insurance, and too many people either can't get insurance or are turned down by the insurance companies for specious reasons. The insurance industry is corrupt, the health industry is its' own worst enemy - wanting on the one hand to treat anyone who needs health care, but overcharging for that care on the other hand. In America, you can't afford to get sick anymore. And that's simply wrong. So this health care bill has a shot of starting to correct these inequities, but I suspect that new health care gaps will open even as coverage and options also increase for a greater number of people.
Today's BFAC picture is a piece by Pam Brokaw. Pam is a long-time friend and customer who lives in Wisconsin. Her oldest daughter did work for us a few summers ago, and I've known her lovely family for many, many years. She has turned into a confident and talented beader over the years and has this delightful offering for our auctions this year. Again, I urge you to take a look at the items that are available for auction this week, choose one, and bid high. The goal of eliminating one form of cancer is a no-brainer.
