The Weekend Could Have Been Better

Saturday was a good day and Sunday should have been, but when I look back on my weekend now, it was a bit of a mess all around. Saturday was standard - work, then home. Work was boring - not a lot of customers while the Fair is going on - we're too close to the Fairgrounds for customers to want to brave the traffic (understandable). Looking at the week-end sales numbers, however ... they were dismal. Ack!

Highland Fling competition takes place in the central green. We've
attended when it's been super hot, and when it's been raining. Yesterday
was cold, but generally ok weather.. We always miss the nationals
which are held on Saturday, and only manage to catch the area
competition which is held on Sunday. Still, it's fun to watch.

Sunday was Renaissance Festival and Highland Fling day. That's usually one of our favorite days at Fest, and I was really looking forward to it. But ... DH apparently misplaced his cell phone, then, because he had actually done that on Saturday, it wasn't charged. He thought he had a car charger (I gave him my old one when I upgraded my phone 18 months ago), but couldn't find it. That put him into a foul mood. He plugged his phone in at home and went without his cell. I almost turned around midway and went back home. Housecleaning was starting to look better than Ren Fest - that's BAD!

I didn't take photos yesterday, but this shot of the caber toss
is from last year's competition. The idea of the caber is to
pick up this telephone pole, gain control of it, and flip it away
from you end-over-end so that it lands perpendicular to your
body. The more towards 12 o'clock it is, the better your score.

We got to Fest, and I just wasn't in the mood. We watched all of the events, caught two performances while the competition was at lunch break, and then caught the afternoon schedule of caber toss and sheaf toss (both really excellent). We sat through a short rain in the morning, and a harder rain started as the sheaf toss was ending. We left at the end of the competition, went home, and DH went to bed. I don't think we exchanged more than 20 words all day.

The sheaf toss is swinging a weighted block of stuffed
fabric on a pitchfork (2 or 3 tine) to give it the
velocity and angle to clear the bar. The bar is raised
2-3 feet higher each round. (Photo from 2018.) Looking
at my 2018 photos, it was overcast and rainy
last year too.

It was just one of those weekends. I hope that's done now and his mood will improve, but no guarantees there. Thank goodness I'm off for Sharon's visit starting with my normal day off on Wednesday. I think I need a break. Have an excellent Monday. I'll work out some of my frustration at the gym soon. That'll help.
