I'm Getting Hungry for State Fair Food

I had the best of intentions to look through my State Fair coupon book yesterday, and a total lack of time in which to do it. It wasn't a busy customer day - we're too close to the State Fairgrounds to get a lot of drive-in traffic because folks know that our streets can be extra congested at this time of the year. But I have projects that I'm working on - basically a store-wide inventory, one product grouping at a time. Chickie and I have been working hard at this for weeks now, and I needed to get caught up. Maybe I'll have a chance to take a serious look at the coupon book later today.

The Minnesota State Fair coupon book only costs
$5 and is a wonderful bargain. We're usually
saving more than $100 by the end of the Fair.
Sharon has her own book, and Chickie also wanders
with her book in hand. I have to take time to look
through and mark my pages before Friday.

I had made a short list of new foods that I wanted to try, and the reviews have now come out. I'm looking through a couple of the main reviews for yes/no/maybe decisions. I'm only at the Fair for three days, and once DH arrives after work on Saturday, our schedules are dictated by what he wants to see during his 1-1/4 days at the Fair. It's only fair - Sharon and I get almost two full days to wander where we want and eat whatever suits us.

When I lived across the street from the State Fairgrounds, I would pop
over for a quick dinner of an "Almost a Foot Long Hot Dog" with
fried onions. So good! Now I live a bit farther away and only get
a chance to have one of these each of the three days I'm at the Fair.

The one item I absolutely know I'll be eating is an "Almost A Foot Long" hot dog. It's one of my all-time favorite foods at the Fair and I often end up with more than one over the days I'm walking the Fairgrounds. The other item I know I'll eat no matter what is "Danielson and Daughter's Onion Rings" which are the absolute BEST onion rings I've ever eaten in years of searching out the perfect onion ring. The batter is light and perfectly brown, seasonings are just right, and the rings are thin and perfectly cooked. Yeah - I'm a total fangirl.

Here's my portion of onion rings from Danielsons and
Daughters a year or two ago. So good! Hmmm - I'm
still wearing that Denver Broncos jacket too, and it was
a jacket that I bought at the State Fair five years ago or
maybe even longer. My favorite summer jacket.

I'm starting to get excited about the Fair - less than one week to go until I'm there, walking the familiar grounds once again with my best friend from High School. Almost 50 years of friendship between Sharon and I and seeing her again just makes my days at the Fair that much better. Friends and food - the perfect combination.

I always seem to forget about RC's BBQ, but there are at least two
things on their menu that I want to try this year, so I'll have to make
sure to remember them. They actually have wonderful smokey
Bar-B-Que offerings, and also feature free concerts in their large
seating area. It's a big booth and one of the nicer ones, towards
the north end of the Fairgrounds.

On that note, I'm off to the gym. Have a totally excellent weekend. We'll be back at Renaissance Festival tomorrow for Highland Days. Hopefully DH will dress in his kilt - he looks really good in it = LOL. I'll be back on Monday.
