I'm Clumsy - ARGH - But It Was a Good Computer Day

Argh - I was just grabbing my pedometer after my shower after my 2 miles on the treadmill, and I dropped the darned thing onto the tile floor of the bathroom. Busted! After I was dressed, I immediately went on to Amazon, found the style I had been using, and put another one on order.  Unfortunately, I won't have my new pedometer until Thursday at the earliest, but I'll just have to make do. I really liked the pedometer I've been using because it didn't need to be calibrated. Getting a pedometer calibrated properly is a total PITA in my opinion. It's measuring steps, trying to be consistent, etc. This one self-calibrates based on movement so set-up pretty much doesn't play into it. I wear it attached to my clothing and it's been keeping great track of my steps ... until I dropped it. *Sigh* - Klutz ... that's me.

My lime green one was sold out, so I ended up
ordering a yellow one instead. I'll live with it.
I like the pedometer, but didn't want a bold
color that might show through some clothes.
This one should be mild enough.

While I was on Amazon, I also picked up an inexpensive immersion blender. I've been wanting one of these for my Ogre Juice for a while. When I remove the protective plastic wrap from the surface of my drinks at work, sometimes the oil has separated a bit. An immersion blender would take care of that quickly, so voila.

I also ordered an immersion blender. I've been wanting one
for quite a while now, and this one was inexpensive
enough, with enough good reviews, that it seemed worth
the gamble. If I don't like it, I'll return it to Amazon.

I spent almost all day yesterday working on Etsy. I pulled my 8mm cubes from the site, and uploaded the 6mm and 4mm cubes. I've been working on the revision of the 8mm cubes and think I have those ready to upload also, but have a bit more work to do on them. I found a way to link each item with its' corresponding photo, and also how to deal with variable quantities of each item. As the saying goes ... "I'm cooking with gas" - LOL.

Back to that 2018 photo once again. (It's so strange to
see me with hair - LOL). This bat-wing blouse is one
of the two I'm having my tailor make smaller. She's
taking in 2-3 inches on each side, and there will
still be plenty of room for movement and to pull
it on and off. I need to figure out something to close
the bat wings. I have a photo in my mind's eye, but
haven't been able to find something like it in the
physical world yet. Time for a serious internet hunt
through fabric trim shopping sites.

I also took two of my Renaissance Festival bat-wing blouses and two of my velvet skirts to my tailor yesterday. She'll make them smaller and less bulky. I wanted her to do a fastening down the open bat-wing sleeves, but we were interrupted by a phone call telling me my alarm service guy was at the shop. So I left it with just the resizing and headed over to the shop to meet with Blohng Vang (my preferred service tech) and get his opinion of what had been causing the false alarms. He checked everything, recommended we have one sensor disconnected (which he then did), and he was on his way. Things should be working properly again now and no more interrupted nights for false alarms.

I do love a good Poke bowl. I had a Blazing Dragon
bowl yesterday, but their salmon bowls are also
delicious.

So I returned home, treating myself to a sushi bowl on my way home for my lunch. I deserved it - LOL. I dove back into the computer and Etsy and barely surfaced until it was time to go to bed. It was a good day off, though. Busy, but a lot accomplished. I wish I had been able to spend a bit more time outdoors, today we start moving into a heat wave for the next few days, but I was on a roll and didn't want to move everything out to the patio, then back in again later in the day. On that note, I'm out of here. I want my breakfast and my morning tea and it won't just happen when I wave my non-existent magic wand. Have an excellent weekend official Juneteenth (Sunday) and I'll be back on Monday.

A Post of "Owie" - Mine and Others

I have one "owie" on my head that is just not healing. It's not part of the tattoo, it's a part of "klutz me" instead. I have this habit of forgetting I have a cabinet or cutting board or desk top over my head after I'm picking something up from the floor or mopping up a mess. I rise up, and I immediately hit my head against a hard surface. I do it frequently. This particular wound, however, is just not healing well. Today I finally broke down and slapped some iodine onto it. So many healing topical creams can't be used above neck height, by iodine is a go-to for me. We'll see if it manages to work long enough to allow healing to commence.

My personal area of klutz is items above my
head - shelves, pull-out cutting boards, desks,
etc. I never fail to hit my head while trying
to stand upright once again.

I got super sunburned on the back of my neck and upper back at Ren Faire on Sunday. After a while of watching the Highland Games, I grabbed my new scarf and nestled under it, with fairly good success, but until then, my upper back had gotten too much sun. It's not painful, and just a little warm now (two days later), but it is a reminder of how stupid I can be. I might have been putting on sunscreen over my head and face (several times, in fact), but my upper back never occurred to me. Stupid, really, but lesson learned.

My head and face survived the sun very well. I did use my
parasol for a good part of the day, but I also was diligent
about putting on my 110 Broad Spectrum Sun Screen lotion.
Unfortunately, I didn't think about the back of my neck and
upper back. I'll know better this coming weekend.

Yesterday, my final customer of the day, "Scottie", was a really interesting dude who's getting into beading. He's missing his left eye and left leg below the knee, but he's teaching himself beading and making some really nice stuff. I gave him a lot of tips and tricks, and hope he'll do well on his next project. He was fun to work with, very into his new craft, and I think he lives in the neighborhood. I hope we'll be able to help him make some outstanding stuff in future.

Although I noticed Scottie's eye, I didn't
notice his leg until he popped back into the
shop with one more question. Guess I'm
just not very observant, but it certainly
didn't seem to be slowing him down in
any way.

Today is going to be a very busy day, so I'm going to wrap this up and get going. I hope you have a wonderful and safe day, that your projects and interactions go smoothly, and that you continue to be kind and stay safe. I'll be back tomorrow.

Stay-at-Home - Day 35 - RICE For My Ankle

I didn't post yesterday, and I apologize for that. I was going to post when I finished my work at the shop - I had a lot of mail orders I wanted finalized so that I could print the shipping tags out at home and drop them into the mail later in the day. I also had to go to the bank and pick up some merchandise bags from my supplier. Very blah, but very necessary.

Life got in the way.

I was taking the merchandise bags down to the basement to put onto the appropriate shelf, and I messed up. Badly. I completely missed my count and missed the last step of the staircase, landing very badly on my left ankle. I don't think I broke it (well ... maybe a hairline crack, but no greenstick fractures), but I turned it really hard and I still had my work to do. So, after finally catching my breath, I started filling orders because that's what had to get done.

My left foot is pretty swollen, and probably even a bit worse today, but
at least it's not hurting quite as much this morning. What a mess!

I finally called DH to come over and help me (the help was negligible, but necessary), and we got the orders finished, invoiced and packed. I got home and he handed me my old set of crutches, and I finished the labels and got everything ready to send. I'll go with him to the Post Office today, and I'll have him actually go into the building and mail the boxes.

I, on the other hand, have realized that I move a lot faster and with more stability when I'm actually crawling, so I'm channeling my inner nine-month-old and crawling as much as possible instead of using the crutches. One way or another, I'm housebound for quite a while. I guess I'm grateful to COVID-19 after all, since our stay-at-home was extended until May 18th. If I had to go in to work on Monday, it wouldn't be a pleasant thing.

I can't believe I did that. I've caught myself on that stairway
in the past, but since I had a hand-full of bags, I couldn't reach
out to grab the hand rail. My bad!

So, I'm once again a klutz. And I hurt, and I'm none to happy about my situation. Still, I'm going to try my best to RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevate. I'll have DH bring my laptop to the middle level of the house and set it up there to keep my foot elevated. And I'm OK - just hurting, and that will heal. But, what a mess! I'll be back on Monday, hopefully with less swelling and less pain. In the meanwhile, Stay Safe, Stay Home and Stay Well.
