Beading For A Cure

Beading For A Cure is an organization that I have been involved in for many years. Every year beaders purchase a kit and create a project from the beads in that kit to be auctioned off to raise funds to erradicate colorectal cancer. The organization has raised 1000's of dollars for this cause in the years that it has existed. This year's auctions began yesterday, March 7th, and will continue with new items added weekly through early May. I'll be posting often about this, but I encourage all of you to visit the eBay listing for Beading For A Cure, look, and bid often and high. Colorectal cancer killed our friend Layne Shilling, and in her honor we do this annually. The colors in this year's auction items are the last group of colors that I supplied and I still like them - so that's a good thing. One of the items this week is this lovely seahorse vase by Fatima Wilson. Very sweet and well done.
And I received my beads for the 2011 auctions on Saturday. I have to say that I am disappointed with these. The color pallete is very dark and there are really only two colors in the package and only two shapes. I spent several hours trying to find something else to make the colors come alive and I'm stumped right now. I can only add a single bead to the kit, and this kit needs serious help. I'm going to have to dig deep into my creative "bag of tricks" to come up with something and I'm NOT happy. Unless people really put some serious effort into this kit, we'll end up with some really dark projects for auction next year. I only hope that others are inspired by this pallete, but I am not. I need to turn on my creativity switch to work with this and design a project that will showcase these beads and that will be challenging, to say the least. However, I do love a challenge.....
