Good morning all and happy Saturday. Yesterday was a day when I got a lot done, but it seemed, at the end of the day, that I had accomplished very little indeed. Again, much of the day was spent in the kitchen where I roasted a lovely organic acorn squash, followed by a cubed organic butternut squash. Two lovely additions to my dinners for a few days, and both made with 100% pure maple syrup - the perfect addition to squash at any time. Yum, yum!
I had gotten a package from JFN earlier in the week and brought it home, but hadn't actually unpacked it yet. I finally had a chance to do that yesterday. It contained one dark blue turtleneck shirt, and this really cute hoodie dress that I'm wearing today. My fabric is a bit more turquoise than the picture, but I'm totally OK with that. It's a nice, heavyweight fabric, so perfect with winter leggings for the shop.
At the end of the day I decided to move ahead with something I'd be planning to do for almost a month - changing the switches on two table lamps so that their bulbs can be turned on and off by the switch instead of unscrewing the bulbs. The lamps are old and their switches were frozen. They're on a 24/7 timer (both lamps plug into the same timer) but the timer turns off at 10:30-11:00 pm and I go to sleep at 9:00 am. I always turn the lights off at night and on again in the morning. I remember my mother wiring several lamps over the years and it never seemed very difficult. The instructions on the back of the new lamp socket seemed quite straightforward, so I gathered my tools and started in.
I managed the first one, except I didn't. Apparently I had the wires opposite from what they were supposed to be, and they ended up blowing up the timer. *sigh* I couldn't leave the lamp like that, DH would have an absolute fit! So I went to YouTube, found a lovely video which told me exactly what I had done wrong, went back upstairs and started from scratch (with more light from my standing OTT light so that I could see more clearly) and voila! Within 10 minutes I had successfully changed the socket and my lamp was usable once again. Of course the 24-hour timer is toast, but I'll drop by the hardware store on my way to work this morning and pick up a new one.
So, adventures on my "day off" - LOL. At least I have a refrigerator full of lovely things to eat, and my lamps are functional (I'll change the socket on the other lamp next week). Life may not be ideal in the paradise of the Frozen Northlands right now, but it could be much, much worse (and that may happen with a major snow system due to hit next week on Tuesday/Wednesday). Have a wonderful Saturday and a great weekend. I'll be back on Monday.
Dreamwidth isn't allowing me to post in real text, only HTML, so I'm copying it from my LJ entry and I hope that will be readable for all of you. Apologies if it is not, and I hope they get that fixed before Monday morning.
