Yesterday Was a Day With Snow - Snow Dusting & Hot Chili For Early Winter

Look what I saw first thing in the morning! The snow didn't stay on the ground past mid-day, but it was still snowing when I left to do my errands in the morning. I was happy I had my winter coat on - it was sloppy, messy and cold. I did take a bunch of pictures, because it was beautiful - like powdered sugar on the trees mixed with the colored leaves of autumn. We're not warming up again, at least for a few more days, so the winter coat is out to stay for the season.

Looking outside my front door yesterday
morning, I was APPALLED to see snow
on the ground. Northern Minnesota saw as
much as three inches, we had about 1/2" to
1" here in the Cities and it was gone by the
afternoon.

I picked up the last two of my Mom's dresses from the dry cleaner and gown restoration company yesterday and they're perfect. This batch required the most restoration, but they did a great job. I pulled all of the gowns from my hall closet and brought them all up to the couch/bed in Sharon's room. I'll work on them there. When I get the folding clothing rack, I'll start to do the photography. I'll have to check with the UPS store about boxing and shipping too - it won't be inexpensive and I have to know what I'll need to charge. I know there's someone out there for each of these gowns, and they deserve to go to a good home.

It was actually quite lovely, the way the snow was
clinging to the branches, leaves and evergreen
needles. Like everything was dusted with
powdered sugar. The streets and driveways
didn't need any care, they were just wet.

I was glad I went and picked the last gowns up yesterday. It turns out it was the final day at the job for the young woman who's been helping me all summer. She's leaving for a job with a local hardware company - says she's bored and wants a bit more excitement in her work life. I suspect the changeover will be quite dramatic and she certainly won't be bored at her new job. She's a sweet person, so I hope all goes well for her.

The trees got a good dusting on their tops, which
contrasted beautifully with the brilliant Fall
colors of their leaves. It'll be a wet, heavy and messy
cleanup for our Fall raking, though. The leaves
still need to drop but winter came early.

Since it was cold (and since I had purchased the ingredients on Wednesday), I made a large batch of 13-bean chili yesterday. I indulged in two flats of sliced crimini mushrooms for the batch. It cooked up beautifully and tasted wonderful for dinner last night. I'll have at least three more, maybe more, meals from it, so I'm quite pleased.

My chili turned out perfect, with LOTS of
crimini mushrooms to go along with the
ground beef, beans and spices. It turned
out to be a tasty batch. I'm already looking
forward to dinner when I can have another
bowl.

I spent the afternoon working on the photography grid for the final sizes/styles of Swarovski crystals for my Etsy store. I finally finished the grids, and then settled down to print a LOT of pages of empty grids for all of the round and bicone shapes in all of their sizes. The next task will be the actual photography, then moving the photos over to the laptop via Dropbox and, finally, massaging the pictures to the correct size and brightness for posting. There's still a lot of work to be done, but I'm one step farther along.

I loved the way the branches twined through the snow-dusted
leaves of this grouping of trees. The stark contrasts really
appealed to me.

So all things considered, it was a day when I accomplished a lot and the snow finally decided to leave in the afternoon. It's still cold, though, so I'll be bundling up from now until late Spring (which seems REALLY FAR AWAY). I just keep reminding myself - "baby steps, baby steps". These large projects can't be done in a hurry, just one step at a time. Have an excellent weekend, go Wild (hopefully they'll win tonight) and Slava Ukraini. I'll be back on Monday.
