Sharon Returns Home Today and My Life Will Revert To Its' Usual Chaos

Today it's back to "normal" for me - in a manner of speaking. I'll drop Sharon off at the airport early today before returning to the shop for a day's worth of work. Chickie will trudge is shortly before 10:00 am, and we'll try to recover from days of walking the Fair and yesterday's long walk around the Renaissance Festival. Sharon and I did 10+ miles at the Fair on Friday and Saturday, and well over 5 miles day when we were with Chickie and DH on Sunday and Monday. All in all, it was a wildly successful few days. We had so much fun. I'm going to share a few photos - make today a photo blog -  because I'm not in a real chatty mood until I catch up on my sleep.

I started my Fair out with a glass of chilled almond milk
and a gluten-free lemon-blueberry muffin. Awesome!
Very tasty. I returned to this booth for a glass of almond
milk each of the three days of the Fair.

Later in the day, I picked up a fruit cup from
the Produce Stand. It was a lovely mix of
grapes, peaches and watermelon. I ended up
getting two of these over the three days I
was at the Fair. Again, very tasty.

I also got some grilled shrimp with a
chili-lime sauce for a snack on
Friday. Really lovely - great mix of spices.

One of my real finds (suggested by Chickie) was this -
non-dairy iced cream at West End Creamery. I've really
been missing ice cream (I'm not eating dairy any more),
and the texture and taste of this non-dairy alternative
was spectacular. I had a dash of maple syrup for flavoring,
and repeated the treat on Day 2. On day 3, I had them
make me a non-dairy ice cream shake with raspberries.
All were outstanding.

On Day 2, I tried another winner - a cup of mango
slices with a chili sauce. Outstanding. I would have
gotten another on Day 3, but they were totally out
of mango. Understandable - this was a real treat.

On Day 3 I tried a few things that I thought I'd enjoy -
here is fried falafel on a stick, and chicken koobedeh
from Holy Land foods. According to Muslims in
the area who are halal, Holy Land makes the best.
I have to agree, they were both quite yummy.

A rare thing to find at the Fair, but one that was
absolutely awesome, was the Sashimi Tacos
with cold slaw at Scenic 61. The tuna was
beautifully fresh, they had wasabi in little
packets, and the slow wasn't overly sweet.
I'd have this again.

Lest you think the State Fair was all about the
food (which is important, but hardly the only
thing there), let me introduce you to crop art.
Crop art is artwork made by gluing individual
seeds onto a particle-board backing, to portray
a scene, person or statement. Here, we have a
portrait of Sir Paul McCartney on the occasion
of his knighthood.

One of the better crop art pieces I've seen
was this one of Yoda. It was made using
only a single kind of seed, but that seed
had been dyed into several different
shades before being used for Yoda.

On Monday we went to Renaissance
Festival, still in search of a corset. This
maker has some splendid ones, she
measured me and tole me my waist
is now 26 inches. I had no idea! I'm back
to late high school/early college form.
I really liked the fit, but wasn't fond
of basic black. She'll bring more colors
for next week.

As you can tell, we covered a lot of ground. I have a LOT of photos on my phone, but chose just a few to share with all of you. The original leather corsets I had looked at the previous week, were totally sold out in my size, so I won't really know how they fit until they have a new stock. supply is the problem when going on the third day of a three-day holiday weekend.

One of the fun things was how many people stopped dead in the street or came up to me to compliment me on my tattoo. Sharon kept count for me. At the Fair, I had 19 people stop me on Day 1, 21 on Day 2, and 11 on Day 3. At the Ren Faire, I had 31 people stop me or ask for a closer look. All told, my "unofficial" total was 82 people over four days, and that doesn't count the people who only commented as they passed, not stopping to talk with me. It was a lot of fun to chat with a variety of people about my scarab tattoo.

I had a wonderful time with Sharon, and as I drop her off at the airport in an hour or so, we'll be promising each other "next year" as long as another Pandemic doesn't get in the way. It was wonderful having her here to share good times with. We did everything, tried everything, walked everywhere, it was SUCH fun. Have a wonderful day and I'll be back tomorrow - maybe with an oven update!
