At Least Knitwear Is Warm - Thoughts Of Future Projects For the Cold

We're warming up, it's -5F right now. But ... Friday and Saturday we'll be back into the super deep freeze. Total UCK! I'm wearing leggings under my pants - a turtleneck under my sweater, and a hoodie over it all. For outside, I add my parka, a hat and gloves, my snow boots and a scarf. I look like an animation, not a real person. But at least I'm semi-warm in the cold. Things slow down a lot in cold like this, though. We only had two customers in the shop all day on Monday, and I can't say I blame people for staying indoors.

This isn't too far off the mark. The parka should be
longer, but everything else is spot on. We understand
cold, here in the Frozen Northlands. We understand
it, but we don't have to like it. My car really doesn't
like it. She wasn't very happy when I asked her to
start up and take me home last night.

I'm loving Voodoo, my new laptop. It's performing wonderfully, and I'm even getting used to the smaller screen. The sound is terrific. I'm going to be using it as a tablet tomorrow while working on my knitting. I completely forgot I had the ability to use it in several configurations last week, so I was refreshing myself on knitting videos on the main computer, then going into the other room to apply what I had just re-learned. I can have it right at my knitting table don't have to go here and there. Silly me! It's going to take me a while to truly get used to how multi-faceted it is.

Although I usually use Voodoo as a laptop, it can
take on several other aspects including a tent
and a tablet. For watching knitting videos at my
work table, one of the other ways might
work out better, and it would certainly be much
more convenient than going back and forth
from my main computer to double check a
video.

I'm going to try my best to complete my first sweater this week. I want to make another, but I need to finish this first so that I'm comfortable with the dimensions I decided on for my sizing, and can change things if needed. For sewing, I can make and cut a muslin to test fit. On a sweater like this, there are formulas and a bit of flying blind. I'm hoping my flying blind was accurate, but I won't know until everything is assembled. I still have to bind the second shoulder together, attach the sleeves to the body, sew up the side seams and finish the collar. It'll probably be all of my time on Wednesday and Friday to get it finished.

I love doing hats. They're pretty easy and fast to do, and
they look great. Both Chickie and I wear hats at work
all the time. She's been wearing her Christmas hat every
day. I'd love to make her a second style, and it would
give me a chance to practice Fair Isle knitting techniques.
I found this pattern and I think it's quite do-able. I
won't use this coloring, but I'm sure I can figure
something else out.

I also have another hat design I want to try out. I can run through a quick swatch on the machine tomorrow for the new design, since I want to make sure I get measurements before washing, and then again after. Chickie is hinting that she'd like another hat, and I've been wanting to try some Fair Isle patterns, so it might be a good opportunity to give it a go before diving into a Fair Isle sweater project I want to knit.

I want to make this sweater, at least the top
portion of it, I'm not sure about the bottom
and the decorated cuffs. But the top should
be very do-able and I think the patterning
is quite pretty. I'll do it in my own color scheme,
of course.

I think that's probably enough this-n-that for today. See the exciting things filling my life these days in the Frozen Northlands? LOL! I hope you have a fabulous Tuesday and that you stay safe, be kind and wear your mask. Also ... stay WARM (my friends in cold places). I'll be back tomorrow.
