Stay-at-Home - Day 20 - Comfort Food

In times of unrest I tend to move back to food I consider comfort food. I currently have a small pack of Club Crackers on the desk in front of me. I had lunch not long ago - celery with crunchy peanut butter. I'm drinking a lot of herbal tea from Celestial Seasonings, one of my favorite mid-range fruit/herb tea companies, and I still have two mini-bagels in my bag for tonight's dinner.

I love Celestial Seasonings teas. They're a Colorado company and I've
been a fan since my college days. I've even taken several tours through
their factory - really interesting. I don't bother with the sampler packs
like this one, I just buy the full boxes of the teas - I know I'll use them.

My mother always had cooked chicken and all-beef hot dogs as two of her comfort foods. I finished my chicken last night when I sauteed it with a diced Anjou pear - it was awesome. But, if you checked my drawer in the fridge, you'd find two all-beef hot dogs left from the package I purchased almost two weeks ago.

I know ... I can hear the shudders across the states between
you, my readers, and my pantry. But, a love of this cheap
Ramen is the mark of a college student who was broke and
needed to eat. I still love them, although I do doctor the
needles up with more flavor than the little packages
included with the noodles offer.

There is Top Ramen on my shelf, along with boxed mac and cheese. There's a grapefruit on the counter next to a Jazz apple (very sweet, but nice and crisp), I just finished the last of my current bag of bite-sized Tostitos yesterday and I'll open a new bag today because that's a standard munchie food for me. I still have six chocolate chip cookies left from the package I purchased on Wednesday. I limit myself to two cookies as my late-night snack, so this will end on Sunday night unless DH bakes something before then.

I love oatmeal for breakfast - it's one of
those foods that I eat most days. There's a nice
oatmeal cookie recipe under the cover, I might
break down and make some cookies too.

My breakfasts are old-style Quaker oatmeal - the kind that tastes best if you actually cook it for five minutes in boiling water. Since oatmeal is usually what I ordered when I had breakfast at Perkins on my way to the shop, my breakfasts haven't changed much. But I am letting myself sleep until 6:00 am instead of 3:15 am. That's been rather nice, although I'm also staying up later at night as a result.

I really miss my swim in the morning, as well as the group
of other "5:00 am Lemmings" who joined me at the gym door
every early morning. I can hardly wait for the gym to
open again, although I have no idea how they'll manage to
keep things sanitary for post-Covid-19 standards.

All things considered, I'm managing my stay-at-home fairly well. I'm hitting the treadmill every morning, even though I'm not getting as good of a workout as I would in the swimming pool or even around the walking track at the gym. I'll have a lot of catch-up to do when I'm finally able to return to the gym after more than five weeks.

My standard munchie is a small container of
Tostitos Bite Size. It's just the right amount of
sale and crunch. I buy multiple bags as
a time because it's a rare day when I don't
eat at least some of them.

So, do you have some comfort foods you fall back onto in good times and bad? Is there a food you refuse to allow yourself to run out of? One that must be on-hand at all times? For DH, that's chocolate - not a lot, a few small pieces, but he needs some every day. For me, it's usually something salty - thus my Tostitos. Share with me - what foods make you happy?
