It's a Heat Wave - Stay Safe!

Summer has finally arrived, and we're going to be hot, hot, hot over the weekend. We're under a heat alert starting mid-day today and extending until sundown on Sunday with temps up to and perhaps exceeding 100 F (37.7 C). We don't have super high humidity right now, so that is a positive spin, but yeah - hot! Not as hot as Europe and Africa, however. Just look at what my friends overseas are facing right now while my life continues it's snail pace in relative comfort!

Europe is also in the grip of a serious heat wave, with temps of
more than 110 F in France and Spain. Although we'll be hot here
in the Frozen Northlands, we won't be anywhere close to that
heat. I feel for you, Europe!

DH was going to pick up a truck-load of rock and soil yesterday, but had been under the impression that the heat was supposed to hit on Friday. He was mistaken, and now he's several days farther behind on this year's backyard projects. He's going to start butting up again heat and Chickie's family reunion vacation in a few weeks, so I expect he's going to be getting cranky pretty soon. Heat can do that to a person.

Yesterday, hundreds of people gathered at the ornamental pond at the Eiffel Tower,
to escape the oppressive heat.

I'm trying to pay more attention to my posture and do my PT exercises regularly as assigned and my arm is already starting to feel a little bit better. I'm not expecting any overnight miracles here - that would be unrealistic and rather stupid on my part. But if I can progress in baby steps, that's important. So I'll continue adding the exercises after my daily workout. It pushes me a bit later on my gym time, but it seems to be working out. I'm thinking it might be wise to invest in an inexpensive yoga mat so that I'm not lying on the general mat for my prone exercise. Still, I do have my head on a towel at least.

The last major heat wave in Europe ended up with more than
30,000 fatalities. The authorities are taking things a bit more
seriously this time, closing schools, opening swimming pools,
and regulating outdoor projects to early morning hours.

As I continue to clean hidden corners and unorganized drawers at the shop, I found silver yesterday. Three types of sterling silver earwires that we had hunted for a few years ago without luck. They were buried under loose, empty plastic bags (which have now been tossed out). Checking the computer, we had purchased more of them in the interim, but now we have a LOT. I'm hoping I can get these sold easily, I'd rather not have to bring them all home for my personal use. That would be a lot of earrings I would feel obliged to make and try to sell.

Yes, Europe is hot, but do you see that large swath
of super dark red and some almost black extending
from the Persian Gulf to the western reaches
of Africa? There's where the heat it centered, and
there's where it will hurt just to breathe.

Have a wonderful weekend and try to stay safe and cool. As long as it's not raining, I think I'll be enjoying my margaritas on the patio tomorrow as we swelter through Sunday. I'll be back on Monday.
