Project Runway All Stars - Resort Wear - SPOILERS

So, the challenge for this week's Project Runway All Stars contestants was to create a piece of resort wear based on a land that a player can level up to while playing Candy Crush. The winner will collaborate with King, the syndicate behind the computer game, for an exclusive fashion design. I have no idea what that will entail, but it could be huge - maybe. I really don't envision fashion when thinking about games that I play on my phone. Just sayin' ...

The guest judges this week were Nina Garcia - well known to any Project Runway enthusiast as one of the permanent judges on the standard edition of the show - and Kelly Osborne. Kelly is often a guest judge and has been involved in the fashion industry for many years now. She started out being a bit of a flake, but over the years has actually matured into a well-versed critic for fashion and design. I enjoy her as a judge.

So ... let's look at the five resort-wear outfits designed by our five remaining contenders.

Anthony received a bit of heat over his choice
of white instead of the bright colors featured
by Candy Crush.

Anthony created this fun, teasing romper for a safari resort. He explained his choice of fabric by emphasizing the screening in the one fabric as having "O"'s similar to the visual images in Candy Crush. He also designed square pocket tabs to accompany the theme. The thing that drove me crazy with his outfit is that his shorts didn't walk uniformly - the left leg always looked shorter than the right unless the model was motionless. Isaac called the eyelet fabric a "bit naughty", Nina compared his look to a nurse's uniform, ouch! Georgiana called his design "basic" and Kelly complimented his decision to skip color. Alyssa said it looked like an "editorial apron". Not one of his most successful designs.

Edmond was assigned the mountains and decided on
this jumpsuit for skiing. It used neoprene, a non-stretch
fabric and was styled like a design that went out of
style in the mid-1970's.

Edmond's ski outfit looked like a poorly fitting scuba suit - in fact the term scuba suit was thrown around the workshop a lot. It was baggy in all the wrong places, like the crotch. Alyssa picked up on that right away, saying that it looked like his model had a penis. Whoops! Georgiana didn't like it at all, Isaac liked the scarf. Nina said she expected more, Kelly liked the color, and basically this design underwhelmed the judges completely.

Fabio made this pink, red and black jumpsuit
with a snug black pant under this half-flowing
front dual-colored panel. It was an interesting
design for his tropical resort.

I liked this design, although I agreed with the judges' critiques. Alyssa loved the open back of his design, with the well-fitted black pants displayed in the rear view. Georgiana loved the colors he chose and his proportions. Isaac wasn't a fan of this one, considering his design looking too heavy for the tropics. I have to agree in a way - a lighter-weight fabric for the front panels would have been a better choice. Nina agreed with Isaac, but Kelly wanted the outfit for the Fourth of July. What???

Ken wowed the Runway with this yellow
gown. His choice of resort had been the
beach, and I could easily see this fitting
into that locale.

Ken beat the other designers at Candy Crush - stomping them down by more than 50,000 points. He had first choice of resort locales, and he chose the beach. Good choice. He said he was inspired by what his girl would wear in the Hamptons. I don't really think of the Hamptons as a beach, but I guess it qualifies. Georgiana loved his modern take on a jumpsuit, Nina thought it was "juicy". Isaac loved the color but thought the fabric choice was wrong, but Kelly's comment about wishing the sarong was removable really hit with me. If the designers had more time, I wonder if that would have occurred to Ken? Having the sarong removable would have cemented this design as cutting edge.

Wow - Stanley's design really left me cold. I
hated the color clash between the pant green
and the dress green. I hated the print, and the
actual dress itself looked like something
a Home Economics student on a budget
might throw together at the last minute.

Stanley was a real disappointment to me this week. He had a lakeside resort, so not a super difficult challenge, but I thought this was a disaster on the Runway. He said his inspiration was Lake Como. Georgiana said there was a lightness to the dress but she didn't like the pant proportions, Isaac hated the print. Yeah - that print was awful. Kelly liked the sleeves of the dress, but I thought the cuffs were poorly finished. Nina just thought there was too much going on with his design. Alyssa, on the other hand, said this was her favorite design for the entire season. Really? Oy! I liked his choice of hat. I don't think that counts for much - LOL.

So, there you have the five fashions for the week. Did you guess who won and who was sent home?

The winner of this challenge was Ken with that lovely yellow jumpsuit.

The loser, and sent home before the finale, Edmond and his poorly designed and fitted ski resort scuba suit. Once again the "win one and get sent home the next week" curse applies. It's too bad - I liked Edmond, but his design choice for ski-wear this week was a bad decision.

Next week might be the final episode for the season, although they'd be packing a lot into one hour. Each of the four designers will gather in Washington DC and will be challenged to create a collection of six outfits that will establish them in American fashion history. We'll see how that plays out.

Enjoy your weekend, be safe, be happy, and I'll be back on Monday morning.
