A Fabulous Anniversary Meal

DH and I had a really lovely celebration meal last night. He had a day off from work yesterday and took a bit of time to go to the store and buy a new white shirt. The shirt along with a dark pinstripe suit made for one hunky, amazing man to accompany me to dinner.

We were seated at that small wall at the windows. I put in an arrow to point it out.

We were seated in a small booth for two and our server, Bjorn, was very attentive. Not being in a wine mood, DH had Dewers (Scotch for those who don't know the brand) on the rocks, I had my standard Kaluah on the rocks. We each ended up with two drinks over the course of the evening.

DH's prime rib took up most of the plate. It was HUGE! He was very
impressed with the Yukon mashed potatoes.

A slab of meat was DH's choice - a huge portion of prime rib after a lovely wedge salad. I started with a Maytag blue cheese salad with slivered almonds (very nummy) and ordered the Char-grilled fillet mignon with petit lobster tail which was stupendous. DH's came with mashed Yukon potatoes and a really amazing horseradish - light and spicy at the same time. Mine had grilled asparagus, Yukon potatoes au gratin, a brandy-mustard sauce, and smoked mushrooms with truffle oil on top of the little steak. Yummy!

I didn't take photos of our food, relying on the web to have similar pics. This
is pretty close for my filet and lobster tail. You can see the grilled asparagus
spears to the right and the Yukon potatoes au gratin are hiding behind the lemon.
It was really, really good!

The restaurant brought us a creme brulee with a candle twisted as a heart for a celebratory dessert with two spoons. It was pleasantly flavorful and we had a lovely glass each of Graham's 10 year port to accompany it. After that wonderful meal, the decaf coffee was just 'meh'.

The creme brulee was nicely torched with a perfect sugar crust. The interior was
actually flavorful - too often they are bland. It was served with a small
side of fresh strawberries on whipped cream that DH immediately laid claim to.

We had a fabulous time and really enjoyed our night out. It was most certainly NOT inexpensive, but I felt it was money well spent. I would go there again and try something different this time. DH still wants to cook me an anniversary dinner and has been busy planning his menu. I don't know when this will happen, but I'm already looking forward to it.

Here's hoping your Wednesday is filled with joy.
