I'm very grateful that my arthritis isn't kicking up too badly because I would find it very difficult to type and I'm typing hours and hours every day. It's the only way that I will get NaNo completed, and I'm just loving the opportunity to write the lives of my characters. I'm not sure if it is working, I know I'll be popping things around and moving things here, there and everywhere, but I love it. My characters are strong, the backdrop scenery and secondary characters are interesting and dance so nicely with my main characters, and my mind gets the opportunity to return to my beloved Colorado. As of now I've written 23,147 words on this novel. I'm not the most prolific of authors, but I'm holding my own.
It's so exciting to me to be writing outside of a fandom and writing original fiction. But the twist on this is that it is historical fiction, so I'm always popping off my writing screens to check on minutiae and facts. Yesterday I was taking a quick run off to check on the price of horses and what currency was used in 1869.
And I have just as much research to do for my contemporary character. I need showbills for events that occurred. I need menus and specific names because these were people who were, and in some instances still are, living. I want the buildings to be accurate, the roads leading to the proper locations and the music to be perfect.
So I am exercising my fingers. I am composing at least 2000 words every morning between 4:00 am and 6:00 am, with another 1000 words before 9:00 am. If I really push myself and find it necessary, I can push anywhere from 4000 to 5000 words out before I have to unlock the shop at 10:00 am. I'm hitting the treadmill for a quick mile every morning and making sure that I eat properly because my head is in the words, not my daily life. I'm making a written life, losing weight, and loving what I'm doing. Damn, I'm having such fun!
