Accomplishments....Or Not!

Wednesdays are my "studio day" and I was actually back to the house by 9:15 am - very early. I had my first load of laundry in the washer by 9:30 am so that, hopefully, I could do some enameling in the afternoon when the washer was through with it's "thing". The washer was finished on time...but I wanted to do some color samples of the eleven new enamel colors I had purchased before I used them on the shaped copper that I had spent a couple of weeks of "spare" time forming. So, I know I had brought my copper strips for samples here to the kiln. But...do you think they were something I actually could find? Of COURSE not.

Instead I decided that since I can't find them, I'll have to cut and start new strips. And since I was going to do that, I would mark the strips well with my metal stamps so that I have a good record of the color number and manufacturer. I started up my spreadsheet program and entered in each of the Thompson enamels that I own. Some of these were parts of sample sets that I purchased, others were actual two-ounce jars. It turns out that I have more than 50 colors of enamel, so I'll have to cut an entire full sheet of copper for my new sample strips. I'm actually rather looking forward to this part. There's something so satisfying about the metal shear and the disc cutters. Just the action of cutting the metal so precisely is just....FUN. So, even though I didn't nearly get what I had planned to out of my studio day, I did accomplish some things and I'll have things ready for my next kiln day. All is good :-)
