Yesterday was every bit as busy as I had expected it to be, with the exception of my weekly phone chat with Aearwen which was postponed until next week at her request. She's into her final few days of getting out of her old house and into her new one. The closing takes place either today or tomorrow, if I recall correctly, and then she's turned her back on one life and started another. It's a big step to take at our age, but circumstances dictated the necessity of a complete shift and she rallied the strength and fortitude to pull everything through. I know she and her son will be happy in their new double-wide home, and it will be a relief in many ways to have the constant maintenance issues of her almost one-hundred-year old house behind her.
But despite all of the good things she has to look forward to, as most humans, she'll look at what has been as much as what can be. As a species, we look as often at the past as at the future. I suspect that's quite unique in the universe. Behaviors can be learned and unlearned, but true memories stored and replayed time and again? My feeling is that the memory-driven actions of humanity are not mirrored by the other species with which we share this world. Still, the animal kingdom surprises me and the researchers who have been trying to establish proof of memory influencing future actions among non-human species.
I did get quite a lot done yesterday. The clothing rack where I have my Mom's dresses hanging was able to shrink the width enough that it actually fit into the closet of the guest room. The dresses are now hanging there comfortably, and the room has been cleared and is ready to be repurposed into Sharon's room. I've always said I should have an engraved brass plaque on the door that says "Sharon's Room". I've never acted on it because I don't want to put holes in the door to mount such an item, but it would be quite fun. LOL I have exactly two weeks until she arrives, and things are moving along quite well on the cleaning and de-cluttering.
One major goal that I had for yesterday - tackling a pile of unknown items in the computer room - didn't happen. I simply ran out of time for that one. It's now been bumped up on the schedule and moved to Friday's chores. I'll have to be super efficient in the kitchen on Friday so that I have time to deal with my personal Mt. Midoriyama (those of you who are fans of American Ninja Warrior will know exactly what I mean by that - LOL).
I'm wrapping this up and heading out to the pool. One more day to swim this week, and then I'm focused on the weekend and the first day of Renaissance Festival (which is predicted to be quite hot). DH is already complaining about the projected temperatures, I'm reminding him that I am the one who is wearing clothing that's hot (there's nothing breathable about a corset). Apparently the fact that he's dressed in light-weight cottons that aren't form fitting just doesn't count - LOL. Have an excellent Thursday and I'll be back tomorrow. Slava Ukraini.
