Today is Opening Day of the Great Minnesota Get-Together - the State Fair!

I decided against the swimming pool this morning, since one of my wounds from Tuesday night is still seeping a bit. There's really no telling what germs exist in the pool, despite the chlorine levels being at their recommended point. I'll push off until next week, and it'll be the more intelligent thing to do. Only one of the three cuts is still slightly open, and I'm sure it will be closed by the time I go to sleep tonight. I'm a fast healer.

As I said a few days ago, this isn't the exact model
of my ancient Kenmore vacuum, but it's quite similar.
The fact that they could get my vacuum running again,
and for less than $30, that's a total win/win in my book.

My vacuum is repaired and returned to my home. It turned out that the RESET switch was defective. Unfortunately, they don't make that part any more, so the repair guy did a bit of creative rewiring to get everything else functional again. As he said, "If it starts sucking up your draperies, there's nothing that's going to stop it, so just be aware of that." LOL Best of all, he only charged me a bit less than $30! He's a treasure, for sure! When it comes time to replace this vacuum with a new one, I'll probably shop there as well as Target. Although both businesses are local businesses, I'd rather edge to the small independent shop owner.

The gates are already open, and people are already
streaming in. There's nothing quite like the Minnesota
State Fair. It's a small city, with a huge population, that
exists for a short time, and then disappears again. Rather
like that Irish land that appears and then disappears. Except
this one has awesome food, great entertainment. lots of
shopping, and SO much to see. I LOVE the MN State Fair!

Today begins three days at the shop - Chickie is at the State Fair today, so DH has to work for her, but she'll be peppering our phone's in-boxes with photos of the foods she's eating and the things she's seeing. I haven't had a lot of time to research the available food choices yet, but from the beginning scan, there are a few I might be willing to wander off WildFit for. It's got to be pretty special (like Danielson's and Daughters Onion Rings) for me to go off-program, but I also know I'll be right back on WildFit after my State Fair time is over. She'll be back in the shop for Friday and Saturday, and I'm sure we'll be peppering her with questions about what she saw and what she recommends.

To me, there's nothing I love more at the MN State Fair than
Danielson and Daughter's Onion Rings. It's a tiny old-fashioned
little place, staffed by the daughters and their kids, and they have
the BEST onion rings I've EVER had - bar none. It's their
batter. I don't know what's in their batter, but it's light, and
crispy, and just perfect.

I've just about got my "State Fair Kit" ready to go. I purchased a portable water pik, and have some sanitizer packets for anything that might be a bit iffy. They keep the bathrooms, etc in really good condition, so I'm not too worried about that. It's a city that only comes fully to life once a year. Other events are held at the Fairgrounds throughout the year, but every building and every venue is only open during the actual Fair.

I purchased one of these to take to the Fair with me.
It's a portable, rechargeable water pik, and it works
pretty well. It's not as powerful as the one I use
at home, but it'll be fine for the Fair.

The Minnesota State Fair is the largest State Fair in the nation based on daily attendance. The Texas State Fair is the largest, but only because they run ten days longer than our Fair. On a day-to-day comparison, Minnesota has the largest State Fair in the nation, and we revel in it. I'll be driving by the fairgounds on my way to and from work (unless I get tired of the traffic and take some back-road shortcuts). I'll have my windows open and be breathing in that unique State Fair odor - fried food, sugar, and excitement.

The Great Big Wheel towers over the rest of the
Fairgrounds. They arrive 48 hours before the Fair
opens, get everything assembled and ready to go, then
after the Fair shuts down, it's packed and on the trucks
for the next venue within 24-48 hours again. Remarkably
efficient.

The big Ferris wheel has returned again, and I'm SO happy. Sharon and I love going onto this. Sharon isn't much for rides, but this one carries us so high, and we can see all over the Fairgrounds. We're often sharing the cubicle with smaller children, and will help point out areas they might know so that they're not afraid of the height. The "Great Big Wheel" is 150 feet tall - the height of a 15-story building. They erect it in 24 hours and pull it back down again to head for their next venue, also within 24 hours. Extremely efficient. They used to sell physical tickets, now you just pay with a credit card and it prints your tickets out for you.

So, I'll be looking up State Fair foods today, reading Chickie's posts, and looking forward to my own trip out to the Fairgrounds. DH's hip has been really hurting him, so we might not get as much walking in as usual, but it's always good! Always! The end of summer has arrived, but it brings the State Fair along with it, so it's less bittersweet than it could be. Have an excellent Thursday and I'll be back tomorrow. Slava Ukraini.
