Treadmills, Fancy X-Rays and a Guitar - My Last 24 Hours

I decided to try an experiment today. I'm on the treadmill six days a week for 1-3/4 miles or so, and I know I'm getting pretty good cardio and certainly some distance through all of this. My wrist-worn electronic watch wasn't grabbing my steps anywhere close to real numbers, though, and that was driving me a bit crazy.

Our treadmill is a Fit.com model. I think it was sold by
Sears. I chose it for a variety of reasons, not least that
it could fold up and take minimal floor space if needed,
for instance for family holiday gatherings. Since I can't
swim yet, I'm on the treadmill 6-days-a-week on average.
DH usually is on the treadmill anywhere from 1-2 times
a week. We really need an upgrade, but newer treadmills
are wider and my space is limited.

The treadmill we use is old - I think we bought it in the early 2000's. It's a good brand, but the belt slips on it while using it, and I always feel more comfortable (and certainly safer) holding the side bars for my fast-walking. I knew that was why I wasn't getting an accurate reading, but safety first.

I wear a Huawei Band 5 Fitness Tracker. It's not as
good as other brands on the market, but it's also not
as expensive. I think I paid less than $40 for it,
and it's still working beautifully more than two years
later.

So today, I removed the watch from my wrist and put it around my ankle instead. It was a snug fit, but it actually latched closed and I felt more confident about my "daily steps walked" numbers at the end. On Monday, my "steps walked" amounted to less than 500 - SO WRONG! Today it registered more than 3800 steps - much more accurate. I'll just have to remember to move it to my ankle from now on.

I'm a sucker for technology, and this new 3-D Dental
X-Ray machine that my dentist just got was super
kewl to use. The only difference between my instructions
and this photo, is that I was asked to cross my hands
when holding the hand bar. Except for that, the
set-up and machine were identical. That white post
in the foreground actually moves completely around
the head, which is kept immobilized by three pressure
pads. Fast, easy and quite interesting.

Yesterday's dental checkup went beautifully for all of us. My dentist got this new whole-view x-ray machine that's like something out of the future. You stand in the middle, arms crossed and teeth on a ridged tooth bar, then remain immobile while the machine whirls and sings around your head. It makes up for the 18-or-so individual x-rays that they used to take, and gives a full spread-out look at the full mouth for the tech and Doctor to look at. Fun! A new toy - we're all into new, fun things. I love that my dentist keeps up with the new technologies.

Not everybody's dentist is also a musician, but mine is.
Dr B is the rhythm guitarist and keyboard player
for "The Surf Dawgs", a 60's-style band playing
beach music (think "The Beach Boys" and 50's to
early 60's rock and roll). They're in the Minnesota
Music Hall of Fame, and here's a photo of them
when they played at First Avenue (think Prince, he
made the place famous). Why bring this up? The band
will be playing at a venue just down the street from
my house within a few days. I might have to wander
down there and listen.

I guess I really don't have a lot to say today. I'm just trying to cool down after my run and get things together for the day ahead. So have an excellent day. Be kind to others and to animals, and please stay safe. I'll be back tomorrow.
