Christmas Planning Just Isn't Going Well - At Least for Gifts

It's the Saturday before Christmas, and I really have next-to-nothing purchased for DH. I'm beyond frustrated at that. I did order him some cooking supplies he had wanted and will pick them up on Wednesday morning, but it's going to be a sparse holiday for him unless I happen to find something locally that I can pick up with ease. I'm planning at least two cardigans for next year, but I'm still a baby at the knitting machine and won't be producing a sweater in a day this year. (Probably not ever - sweaters will take a bit more than a day to knit, no matter what.)

One of the cardigans I want to make for DH for next
Christmas is this one - the "Mt Auburn Cardigan". I
purchased the pattern on sale, and it's definitely
something I'll be able to do, but not until I've got more
knitting under my belt.

I'd really like him to have a nice Christmas, and I have the feeling it will be a disappointment for him. I don't need gifts - I have pretty much everything I need/want, and who knows if my suggestions for gift cards from JoAnne's and Michael's for craft supplies will be acted upon. We're not starving, we're not cold, our clothing is in fairly good condition, we don't play PS2 or X-Box or other video games, just Lord of the Rings Online on our computers, and although I listen to music a lot, I'm listening on Sirius and Spotify, annual subscriptions that automatically come out of my bank account. He reads, but he's reading through books we already own, so no new things there. He's very hard to buy for, and at our age, we don't need more "stuff" to clutter up the house.

The "Fennel Cardigan" is another one I'd like to
make for DH for next holiday. Are you getting the
feeling that I love cables? I really adore them, and
on the knitting machine they're actually very
do-able. But again, I need to increase my skill-set
first before I tackle this pattern.

I did notice that he purchased some holiday cookies yesterday and he was baking yesterday too. His baking efforts yesterday yielded a platter of thumbprint cookies that I saw on the breadboard last night. Pretty awesome! I think he has some gingerbread batter resting in the refrigerator waiting to be used for cookies today, so we'll be totally set with cookies for the season. I'll pick up our ham on Monday morning and we have a Prime Rib in the freezer for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. I think we're about set. I just wish I could think of more to give to him, but I'm coming up empty. I'll do a quick run to Target on Wednesday for his nuts, but I'm disappointed in myself. In this year of broken dreams, Christmas may end up as one more casualty.

The thumbprint cookies he made are similar to these, but
without the sprinkles on the borders and his icing isn't
as neat. Still, I'm sure they'll be tasty, and that's what's
important.

On that less than uplifting note, I'm going to call this done. I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend and I'll be back on Monday. Be kind, stay safe and please wear your mask.
