A Shift In Attitude

Sometimes time spent is time wasted. It's a good thing I started things a little earlier this morning, because four paragraphs into Version 1 of today's blog, I realized all I was doing was complaining and that's not what I want to write (or what you want to read) on a Monday morning. So ... mind shift.

I generally am not much of a Debbie Downer, but found myself
writing a blog post this morning that would have done her proud.
I deleted it and started over.

Do you do that? Realize that you're becoming a "Debbie Downer" and make a mind shift? I won't, for a single second, claim that it's an easy thing to do, but we actually do it every day, often several times. It's the smile we put into our voices when talking with a small child or an animal. It's the cheery "Wake up!" we say as waking our kids or spouses for another day. It's the "Hi. How can I help you today?" I'll be saying later on when the shop is open. I could be grumpy, but happy takes just as much energy and leaves a much better taste in my mouth when I look back over the day.

A cheerful smile doesn't take any more energy than
being a Gloomy Gus. I'll try for the sunshine
and roses every time possible.

Unfortunately, yesterday was gloomy and a bit rainy. We did get a chance to sit on the patio for a little bit, but nor for long. We checked out all of the plants, though. Next week is July 4th and our day lilies will start to bloom, if the deer stop eating them. The rabbits have been foiled by the fencing in one part of the garden they loved. They seem to be concentrating on the grass and the hostas instead, and that's fine. There's plenty of both for the bunnies. The deer like the lilies, though, and I won't be very happy with them if they destroy them before they bloom.

Had to laugh with this definition of Gloomy Gus. Is that a bread
crust hanging around the right-hand pigeon's neck? Too funny!

It's hard to believe that this is the start of the last week of June. This summer is flying by so fast! So get those summer plans under way. It's 1/3 over already! I'm wrapping this up and heading out to the gym and the Chiropractor. Have a great Monday and I'll be back tomorrow.
