A Name and the Fishing Opener

The name of the new little "princeling" is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. That's a mouthful for a small kid, but I like it. I really like the name "Archie". It has a laid-back feel of comfort for my mind and my tongue. It seems that the Queen and Prince Phillip are also enamored of this small kidling so far, along with the rest of the world. My feeling is that any kid named Archie will be able to hold his own against his nephews and niece.

The name "Archie" always brings my thoughts to
the comic book character and his many friends
in Riverdale. I always enjoyed the comics. Archie
had spunk and the ability to land on his feet
no matter what. Maybe this little princeling
will have the same luck.

It's cold up here in the Frozen Northlands today. We had rain all day yesterday here in the cities, but farther north it was actually snowing. The fishing opener is this weekend, everyone is geared up to get their boats into the water and cast their lines, and it's snowing. Argh! Of course, this is a spring snow and won't stay long, but still. The Governor and others accompanying him on Opening Day onto a lake will be bundled up. Hopefully it will be sunny for the opener.

Fishing Opener here in the Frozen Northlands is BIG stuff. Here's
a photo from the 2013 opener with boats spread across the
Rainy River mouth in Lake of the Woods.

Traditionally, in my state, Fishing Opener is always held on Mother's Day. I recall a campaign a few years ago to move the opener to a different date - either a week earlier or a week later. That was shot down. Apparently the mothers enjoyed the fact that they could have their day without a lot of people in their face. Indeed, some of those mothers are also on the water for Opening Day. The proposal died a quick and firm death and has not been revisited.

Almost all of the lakes are ice-out now, and walleye and other
fish are fine with the cold waters. I hope everyone has a great
time on the lakes this Sunday. DH and I will be at the movies,
cozy and warm with a large bucket of popcorn.

Tonight is Project Runway night and we're down to eight designers left. There's still some chaff to be culled from the kernels, but the level of skill is strong now. If all goes according to plan, I'll be posting my thoughts as the show airs, along with photos of the Runway tomorrow morning. Whee! Fashion - such fun to experience it without having to spend a single coin.

On that note, have a brilliant Thursday, stay warm and cozy and safe, and I'll be back tomorrow. Time to wrap this up, plug in some pics and hit the gym.
