My Final Wednesday Off in 2018 - Busy As Usual

Today is my final Wednesday off before the New Year, since I have to work next week. As usual, I have a long list of things that need to be accomplished, and I'll top my day off by my final 2018 phone call with my dear friend, Aearwen. All in all, if I can get all of my errands completed, it's going to be a very good day.

DH decided on a turkey for Christmas Day and maybe a Prime
Rib or Standing Rib Roast for New Year's. We still have time
on the second, and I am on the fence with it since I rarely eat
beef, but I love making turkey - it basically cooks itself.

The holiday season also holds DH's birthday, and I don't have a lot for him. I did get his cake ordered this morning, it's one of the few things he really wants for the day. But I like to have a little bit to give him too, and so far I only have a single DVD. We're going to have a rather sparse holiday season this year - we don't really want anything, which makes gifting challenging. I have calendars purchased, and I ordered him a replacement clothing item that should be totally unexpected, but all in all, it's still a rather blah holiday this year. Maybe I'll think of something or come across something while doing my errands today.

My mother got us addicted to our annual Honey Baked Ham. She
bought one for us early in our marriage and it's been an annual
treat when we could afford one ever since. Thanks, Mom!

I have a turkey defrosting in the refrigerator for Christmas dinner, and I'm picking up a Honey Baked Ham today, so we certainly won't starve. To help cheer me up a bit, DH made snicker doodle cookies for me yesterday afternoon. They're lovely and perfectly baked. The kitchen even looked clean when I got home from work. A total win/win.

It was a real treat to see my per gallon price yesterday
as I was filling up Minion. Earlier this year I was
just under $3/gallon, so seeing it this low was a total
joy.

During "Big 10" season, my gasoline station always runs a special - an extra 10 cents off per gallon on Tuesdays. If I don't need gas, I don't bother, but yesterday I did need gas and I totally scored! Gas for less than $2.25/gallon. I haven't enjoyed prices that low in a long time. Of course, when I started driving in 1970, gas was a LOT less expensive, but so was everything, and we made a lot less too. It's a balancing act to have money earned and goods purchased balance each other out relatively; an economic see-saw.

So I'll be running around today, as well as doing my usual grocery shopping, etc. At least I won't need to make dinner - I'll have a ham waiting for us to unwrap and enjoy. Here's hoping your Wednesday is fantastic and that you get things wrapped up for your upcoming holiday celebrations, no matter which holiday you choose to celebrate. I'll be back tomorrow.
