Audio Books - Do You Indulge?

My Audible.com membership is up for renewal. It auto-renews next week, and although I could renew it now, it would then move my renew date up for subsequent renewals. I prefer to have it renew slightly later in the month so that it doesn't clash with my car payment and some other bills I pay from that credit card. My "discretionary income" only stretches so far.

I've been listening to audio books since 2002. They're
so convenient for active listening, and the narrators
are excellent.

I first joined Audible in May 2002. I wanted to listen to something while I was on the treadmill, and CD's weren't cutting it - skipping too many times. Then I had some eye surgery which made actual reading extremely difficult for a while. Being addicted to books, I moved over to audio books.

I joined "Audible" long before it was purchased by
Amazon. I'm not an Amazon fan, but I do love Audible
and keep buying more and more audio books.

Since that time I've had an annual membership allocating a certain number of books to me each year at a much reduced cost. Some years I scramble to find books to buy, but this year it seems that so many of my favorite authors were releasing audio copies of books I loved, I didn't have any problem buying my allocation. In fact, I'm just anxiously waiting for my membership to renew next week before grabbing the latest in a series that finally got officially released a couple of days ago.

I listen to books that I've already read in e-format, and
it's like taking another look at a long-lost friend. I love
having the chance to read some of my favorites
once more, without actually reading it on-screen.

I listen to my audio books while swimming. It's turned into an excellent way to listen and get my exercise at the same time. For the first two years in the pool I listened to music playlists I put together, but then I discovered that I was unconsciously altering my stroke rhythms to meet the beat of each song - speeding me up in some cases but slowing me down in others. When trying to knock time off my daily workouts, the tunes just weren't working out at all!

Audio books can also help with learning and comprehension
for classroom situations. The brain processes information
many ways and audio can augment the visual, making
a more fully realized learning experience.

I switched over to audio books, catching up on a few I had already purchased but not listened to, and once again I became addicted. Audio books are convenient and fun. My primary postal worker, Jean, listens while she walks her route. Chickie also listens to books - in a variety of places, although I did have to tell her to turn it off while working in the shop (not professional while working on the sales floor of a retail store). I know a lot of people who get enjoyment from audio books. Perhaps you're one of them.

Have an excellent Friday. If you don't listen to audio books, maybe give one a try today. You might be pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable they can be. I think Audible.com has a "try one book for free" option. Meanwhile, I'll be in the pool in an hour listening to the next portion of my current Audible book.
