Project Runway Synopsis - Good vs Evil - No Spoilers

Meeting in front of a castle-like structure called Lyndhurst Mansion (as close as we tend to get in the USA), the designers of Project Runway were assigned good or evil foci by Michael, the winner of the previous episode's challenge. One wonderful thing is that Claire was assigned the opposite of Shawn, so finally the twins were separated - at least in concept.

Lyndhurst Mansion overlooks the Hudson River in
Tarrytown, New York. It's a bit over-the-top for
decoration. Built in 1838, it is Gothic Revival style
and actually is quite wonderful.

Relationships in the workshop are starting to gel - friends are friendlier, not-friends are more aloof. One friendship that is a bit unusual, but works, is Brandon and Kintaro. Brandon is the quiet menswear designer who had never dressed a woman before Project Runway, and Kintaro is shy and a bit insular. But Kintaro seems to trust Brandon to give him honest feedback.

Brandon and Kintaro have seemed to hit up a friendship of mutual
respect. I'm enjoying watching both of them push their wings
as designers. They are starting to have distinctive voices on the runway.

There's a definite difference between the interaction of the two men vs the interaction between the terrible Twins. Where the Twins rely on each other for support, a second set of hands, and input in all parts of the project, the two men are completely independent, just asking for minor confirmations or critiques from the other one. That's more like Runway should operate.

The challenge is their first two-day challenge and they have a $300 budget at Mood, allowing for some stellar fabric choices. But fabric is the key and those who chose wisely ended up winning the day. It was highly amusing watching Swatch (the dog who lives at Mood) running away from the hoard of twelve designers descending on Mood for their fabric choices. Run, Swatch - Run!

Because it was a two-day challenge, Tim Gunn came into the workshop fairly early in the process and the models were scheduled to arrive quite late. That can sometimes lead to serious fit issues. Tim kept reminding people to push away from the costume and into the fashion.

Both of the Twins were running around, trying to help each other from opposite sides of the workshop and looking like chickens running after scattered grain. Their habit of working on each other's designs and doing work for each other is starting to really wear on the other designers. It really isn't fair - it's like having four hands for each outfit. I have a feeling that Tim Gunn is going to say something to the judges about this problem next week.

The judges for this episode were (R to L), Zac Posen, Nina Garcia,
Dove Cameron and China Anne McClain (stars in the original  movie
Descendants 2)  and, finally, Tim Gunn who doesn't judge, but
is the designer's mentor. The two actresses actually had spot-on
commentary and I enjoyed their interaction with the other
judges as well as themselves. For a change, a good choice!

So, that's all you get from me today. Just a hint so that you have time to catch up before tomorrow's "spoiler" post of winners and losers. I'll just say that the winners are really glorious this week, and the losers - well, they were horrid. So, in the realm of good vs evil, even the designs managed to flow through the parameters. Enjoy your Friday. We're in a bit of a heat wave until Sunday, so I'm already looking forward to the outdoor pool.
