Gathering in the Dust

My character has a mind of his own - actually my roster of characters have minds of their own. I had spent two days getting them gathered in the past and in the earlier past in two separate parts of the nation and set them on their way to intersect. My past characters made their way to Saint Louis, Missouri, found a nice hostler and began getting kitted out to ferry over the Missouri river and then begin the slow walk to Denver City. All of a sudden my characters went on strike.

Philosophers on strike? Who can resist a strike of logic? Or not!

A new character pushed his way into their lives, starting on the periphery and showing signs of becoming a secondary character with more importance than I had intended. He stated without hesitation that they were all in the wrong state, looking at an outmoded method of transportation with no rationale for their using it. "Take the train," he yelled into my ear, and I had to pay attention.

Plot bunnies giving birth to more plot bunnies and more...and more...

So today, while pounding out the next 3000 words in the tale, the venue shifted. Instead of Saint Louis, Missouri, they are now in Fort Laramie, Wyoming. Instead of approaching Denver City from the east, they are now riding down to it from the north. Instead of joining a wagon train, they are traveling light. *sigh* Those loud and strident voices. But I'm much happier now that I've listened to my voices. Oops! I just admitted "I hear voices" - LOL...... I also write them down, to the tune of almost 9000 words at the end of Day 3 of NaNo. What fun!
