Playing With Fire

We've been slow at the shop, so I took advantage of that and spent a couple of hours yesterday afternoon cleaning up my silver bench so that I could torch some items. It's such a relief to have the old detrius put away and the current project up and running again. I turned on the torch to solder two bezels quickly late in the day and realized that I needed gas - the can was empty. Fortunately I had more cans available, so I replaced it with a new one, put on the hose, and I was back in business. I got the bezels soldered and burred out the bottom of the two pieces that I need to sweat solder today. I'll get the solder melted into the smaller pieces this morning, and then get them soldered onto their back plates. I was trying to determine the best time to do my next saw step on this project, but I think I've determined that I need to join the two plates first before I begin sawing out the final piece. I also need to finalize the pin mechanism, but that won't be massively difficult.

Winter has returned to our area with an ice storm yesterday. I expect that driving to work today will have similarity to being on an ice skating rink. I was always a good skater, but I'm not really thrilled at having to drive on ice. And I can't even afford a stupid cup of coffee on my way into work - I don't even have a dollar in my pocket. Guess it's instant at the shop for me today :-) Think creatively on this Friday. And why not treat yourself to a museum visit for your weekend mine expansion project?
